No longer is it just you and your friends racing down the street or jumping curbs and dirt piles. Racers speed around the track. No engine but their own body takes them through this grueling dirt racecourse. At the end, one emerges victorious. Author Angie Peterson Kaelberer does an excellent job creating excitement in this book about BMX racing. In this volume of the "To The Extreme" series, Ms. Peterson begins the book by taking the reader for a ride. She then moves on to write about the equipment, safety, and racing. In few words the author is able to capture the excitement of this often forgotten sport. Large color photographs seem to be aptly placed to follow the action of the writing. Often in high-interest books this is not the case. The small information balloons provide interesting facts about the sport and truly illuminate what is provided in the text. A good book for middle or elementary school libraries. An index, bibliography, and glossary are provided.
