Overview

It's a new world for women in business, where the Old-Economy premium on being a Good Girl has flown out the window. To be successful today, women must be bold...audacious...courageous.... In short: Bodacious!

And they'll learn how from the bodacious success story of Mary Foley, who catapulted her career from an $8-an-hour customer service rep during AOL's earliest days to one of the top female employees of this multimedia behemoth.

As one of AOL's original insiders, Foley realized that the secrets that put AOL on the map were the very secrets that could help women grow their careers. Now, this 36-year-old multimillionaire and venture capitalist shares these secrets with women everywhere.

Bodacious is her career manual for the new breed of women who are ready to vigorously and fearlessly break through barriers and inhibitions. Packed with real-world advice for real women, this original, spirited book supplies:

* 14 specific ways to immediately gain career and personal power

* 16 sidebars designed to help women make the most of their time, money, and talents

* 5 strategies for finding and keeping career relationships that help readers shine

* An action-ready Big, Bodacious, Personal Business Plan.

About the Author: Mary Foley (Reston, VA) spent 10 years at AOL, resigning at age 33 to become a consultant and venture capitalist for HumanR, a human resources software and consulting company. Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Foley, who spent a decade working for AOL, is now a consultant and coach who encourages women to be "bodacious" bold, audacious and courageous. Based largely on her experience at AOL, Foley offers generic strategies for women eager to advance in today's competitive economy. Primarily targeting women starting their own companies or job hunting, Foley urges readers to network extensively, quickly move on from rejection, find mentors, scout for talent. While Foley's advice will help some readers, her title is somewhat deceptive; she talks about her experiences at AOL without providing much of an "inside" view. (Sept.) Booknews
Foley, who rose to the top from a customer service job on AOL, gives women advice and strategies for succeeding in today's economy. In telling the behind-the-scenes story of AOL's start-up days and amazing growth and of her own evolution from an entry-level employee into a successful businesswoman, she points out how the qualities that made AOL such a huge success are the same ones she needed to fulfill her own potential. Packed With Knowledge!

Many of the ideas in ¿bodacious¿ will sound familiar, since Mary Foley is advising women to be more assertive, strategic, competitive and political. It¿s the formula men have long used to get ahead, but Foley addresses her counsel directly to women, along with tips on how to overcome traditional ideals about acting feminine. Hardnosed or not, Foley writes in an engaging way, as she combines personal growth suggestions with examples from success stories, including her own. After a ten year career starting as a customer service rep, she became an AOL millionaire and retired. Now an author, speaker and personal coach, she dispenses advice in a catchy, casual style, which makes even familiar suggestions interesting. While some men may find it interesting to eavesdrop on these lists and reminders for women in the workplace, we recommend Foley¿s breezy career boost to women white collar and professional employees who are ready to pump up on pep talk.
