Body Language, Vol. 2 [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Ned Raggett
The second in the Body Language mix series comes courtesy of label co-founder DJ T, who covers everything from Carl Craig tweaking Theo Parrish to Isolée's great reworking of Ricardo Villalobos' "What You Say Is More Than I Can Say" -- if nothing else, DJ T has his history down cold. Understandable trainspotting aside, Body Language, Vol. 2 deserves credit for being one of the better mix discs in terms of track selection from 2006, starting with a slow build into the Other People Place's understated anthem "Let Me Be Me." The second in the Body Language mix series comes courtesy of label co-founder DJ T, who covers everything from Carl Craig tweaking Theo Parrish to Isolée's great reworking of Ricardo Villalobos' "What You Say Is More Than I Can Say" -- if nothing else, DJ T has his history down cold. Understandable trainspotting aside, Body Language, Vol. 2 deserves credit for being one of the better mix discs in terms of track selection from 2006, starting with a slow build into the Other People Place's understated anthem "Let Me Be Me." Standout song choices include Einzelkind's coldly funky "Marsha" -- followed by the even colder and sharper kick of Tensnake's "Around the House" -- and Gui Boratto's "Arquipelago," especially its drone-tinged break. Tiefschwarz's "Damage (M.A.N.D.Y. Dub Mix)" should be more of a highlight than it is but keeps the atmosphere of the mix going well enough, while the best song title (and a pretty good track in its own right thanks to a Gary Numan-ish rough keyboard part) goes to Discemi's "Tango or Cash." The slight downside is that at points the mix seems oddly less fluid than many others out there -- the first transition from the Other People Place to Stella's "Extralife (DJ Naughty Remix)," for instance, is strangely choppy, and a couple of other moments like that crop up elsewhere. For the most part, though, it's as seamless as it should be, and while not a turning point in the genre Body Language, Vol. 2 fulfills its brief as both handy sampler and enjoyable listen.
