Overview

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed robber by a giant Kodiak bear who shifts into a large, well-muscled, and fully naked human male. But when it's revealed that the robber is the brother of a dangerous criminal, Elizabeth finds herself the target of a vendetta.

Ronan, the Bear Shifter, takes her to Shiftertown for safety. Here Elizabeth learns that the mateless Ronan, alone in the world, takes care of Shifters who have also been left on their own. Having grown up in foster care, Elizabeth can only admire how protective Ronan is.

But Ronan will only let Elizabeth leave the confines of Shiftertown if he becomes her 24/7 bodyguard. Elizabeth chafes at her restriction, but agrees. The trouble is, the sassy human Elizabeth is triggering Ronan's long-buried need to find himself a mate.

    New favorite author/series!

I was sceptical of this book at first but fell in love with the characters. Theres depth to the characters and the plot/characters are believable despite it being about 'shifters'. Im now intrigued by shifter life & just purchased the rest of the series. I suspect I wont be putting my Nook down & will read strait through the series by tonight and will be eargerly awaiting her next book! I dont usually write reviews, but this book deserved one!

    Nice concept, bad writing

The author has a great concept for this series, but the writing is uninspired, wooden, cliche-ridden, and flat. Reading this quickly went from annoying to painful. It's the fantasy genre and requires suspension of disbelief, but that doesn't mean your characters can be one dimensional and change every core characteristic in the space of a page just because it's fast and doesn't require skill in scene, dialogue, or plot.

Did not mean to sound harsh, but with so many good writers in this genre, this book was a waste of money and time. Try Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter.

Writing left a lot tobe desired. .

Story was predictable. Never really attached to any characters, as there was no tension.

Okay read-could have expanded on this book.

Quick Read. Not too many twists and turns thrown into this book. You pretty much know within the first few pages who the main character is going to wind up with and how the book is going to pan out. Would have been nice to have more interaction with some of the minor characters and more explanations about the shifter changing after the breeding.

    Great Story to Read!

This was a perfect story story to get you through the time we must wait for the next full size story. Ronan makes you wish there are Kodiak bear sifters running around in our world. He's perfect for Elizabeth. They make a great couple and push along the story line that runs through the entire series. It's a must read.

    Another great story......

.....from this author! Book is 369 pgs long for those interested. I always like to know myself. Im a big fan of Jennifer Ashley and this book did not disappointed. Great story, great characters, always enjoy reading about her Shifters. If you've never read any of her books you are missing out on a great read. It was a nice romance, but definitely one of her least steamy ones, but still good if you like a gentler romance.

    Great

This book was funny and kept me on my toes with action. I like the way the characters were easy going and didn't feel unmanly about giving hugs even though they were tough guys. :) really enjoyed the book.

    Wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters this author has created. Elizabeth is logical & follows her intuition, without a lot of agonizing second guessing. I am looking forward to reading the entire series.

    more from this reviewer

Elizabeth Chapman trusts no-one. The product of a horrible child

Elizabeth Chapman trusts no-one. The product of a horrible childhood in the foster care system she refuses to allow anyone close to her and protects her sister with everything she has. Then she is saved during a robbery at her shop by Kodiak bear shifter Ronan. All of a sudden her life is once again in turmoil. The robber has connections to a dangerous gang and now her life is in danger. She is determined to go on as if nothing is wrong. Her livelihood depends on it. Ronan is just as determined to give her the help she needs without expecting anything from her in return.

I found Ronan to be such a sweetheart. The more I learned about his history and the things he willingly did for others the more I enjoyed his character. Regardless of the risk to himself he would do everything possible to help others. Elizabeth was such a contradiction from tough woman who needed no-one, to the woman who just needed to be held. To matter.

The more books I read in this series the more I love Jennifer Ashley. It is a wonderful shifter world.
