Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's the second in the series and we are re-introduced to many of the characters in the first and plenty of new faces. I love the development of the characters, I like that for as strong as Julia is, she has human flaws of feeling out of place and insecurities. The mystery was...wow...I was guessing until the end. There are stories within stories that all tie together in the end. I eagerly await the next.

Past Boils Over in a Present Day Murder

In addition to helping run the family's clambake business, Julia Snowden has gotten roped into being on the planning committee for the first annual Founder's Day Weekend in Busman's Harbor.  However, the weekend gets off to a sour start when a human foot is found sticking out of the fire that Julia's brother and an employee, Cabe Stone, have been using to warm up the meal they were planning to serve to the tourists.

Cabe flees the scene almost as soon as the body is discovered, so naturally the police focus on him.  Meanwhile, Julia figures out the victim owned the local RV park and served on the committee with her.  He seemed like a nice man, but Julia soon learns the victim wasn't who he appeared to be.  Was that why he was killed?

I enjoyed spending time with Julia and her family in the first book, and it was so nice to visit them again.  These are real people you can't help but love.  The new characters are just as sharply drawn.  The plot started out quickly and continued to keep me entertained with several good twists and surprises.  Even though I guessed a few things, I was still surprised by the ending.

And yes, there are recipes in the back of the book.  I'm not a fish person, but the non-sea food recipes sound delicious.

My only complaint about the book is that the next one isn't out yet.  I can't wait to find out what happens to the characters from here.

NOTE: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

    Dollycas’s Thoughts

Barbara Ross has cooked us up another fine mystery in Boiled Over. In this follow-up to Clammed Up Julia is still trying to make sure the Snowden Family Clambakes are back on the right track. She thinks serving their food sat the Founder’s Day celebration will be the perfect way to advertise and put a little more money in the business account. Of course she didn’t plan for the dead body.

Ross introduces us to some new characters who are not all who they seem to be. This leads the reader on quite an adventure. We even learn about the true founder of Busman’s Harbor and how the town got its name. We also traveled with Julia through a good bit of Maine tracking down clues.

Julia is not only trying to save the family business, she is at a crossroads of her life. Does she want to go back to New York City? Or stay in Maine with her family and a very important man in her life? Did she wait too long to share her true feelings?

Ross has served us a great mystery with a perfect amount of humor and romance. She has given us rich characters that continue to evolve and a nice little cliffhanger to bring us back for more when Musseled Out hits shelves in 2015.

    4 STARS

I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery. It has charming characters, lovely setting, keeps you guessing right to the end to who did what.
learned some new things along the way. It also leaves you wanting to come back and see what happens next with these characters.

There are recipes that are at the end of the story so easy to find if you later decide to try them.

The setting is Busman's Harbor, Maine. It is a small tourist, fishing area on the coast. It is their founder day celebration.

Julia Snowden has been working on the committee and also runs her family's business of Clambake. They are planning a clambake right on the pier. They built a contraption for the clambake. They are ready for it and they find a dead body in the fire. There employee runs away before the cops can come.

Julia does not believe that their young employee Cabe Stone did it. She is determined to find out what really happened and help find Cabe too.

I wish I could know more about Julia and her boyfriend Chris relationship. Probably shared more in the first book of the series. It does stand alone but I would like to read it.

I was wrong on my guesses who the killer was and why. So I did enjoy the mystery. looking back it makes sense. Lots of suspects and motives for different people being the killer.

I would read more books by Barbara Ross based on Boiled Over.

I was given this ebook to read and agreed to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Kensington.

In Boiled Over Julia Snowden is preparing for the Founder's Day

In Boiled Over Julia Snowden is preparing for the Founder's Day celebration when the worst thing possible turns up.  A body under the wood in the fire.  With that new employee Cabe Stone has disappeared, running away quickly.  Julia believes in her heart that Cabe is innocent, but isn't sure why he's running.  She is determined to find out what is going on and how Cabe plays to all this?

There was so much about this book I enjoyed the fact that it takes place in small town Maine on the water was a great treat for me.  I love ocean side books something about small towns and oceans just draws me in.  Also meeting all the people Julia interacts with was also fun.  I also enjoyed watching Julia grow relationship wise realizing what she wants just hoping it's not to late with Chris the man whose taken her heart.

As for the murder that seems to head in one direction which is Cabe the newcomer to the island.  Where did Cabe come from?  What is his story?  Julia is determined to find out what his story is so she can help keep him out of jail.  And the victim how many people wanted to snuff him out?  Was it a previous enemy or someone new?  It was fabulous with all the twists and turns this book had.  This one will definitely catch you and reel you in wanting to solve it as much as Julia does!
