Meet the Author

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in downtown Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand.

Karna is hard at work on her next novel.

"On one side of me was Camden McQueen on the other was Javi

"On one side of me was Camden McQueen on the other was Javier Bernal. One more light than dark, one more dark than light."

GAH! What a crazy ride this series has been. I have to give Karina Halle credit here, how the hell has she released not one, two.. but 4 incredible books in such a short space of time? As well as all the other series she has written. Amazing.

I have to just start off by saying this was by no means my favourite book out of the series. I did enjoy it, it did have me on the edge of my seat, but at the same time, I felt that parts of it were too much, a little unrealistic and often I found myself thinking who are these characters? Almost as if they had changed and transformed in to these strangers that I didn't know. That was my negative, they were the few issues that I had. Aside from that, I had no idea what to expect from Shooting Scars, after all, what we have already read in the series has been one crazy scenario after the other, and now all of a sudden Camden and Javier on the same team? How was this going to work? I wasn't sure.. would I still be Team Camden, or would I be swayed over to the dark side? I wasn't sure, but I knew I was freaking excited to find out for sure.

As for the characters themselves, once again I was IN. LOVE. ♥ I am 100% Team Camden, BUT I can not deny the fact that I do also love Javier, just a tiny little smidge. There is just something about him and his filthy, dirty mouth that I love. On his own, away from Ellie.. I would totally be Team Javier, but for the purpose of this story and series? Nuhuh.. I am all for Camden. There's just no competition for me.

"Oh angel, you forget. You're the only one who gave me a soul. If I don't have one anymore, it's not my fault."

A lot of this book shocked and surprised me.. as well as some bits being a little predictable. The drama was off the charts. Every page there was something happening whether that be someone dying, secrets being revealed or Cam and Ellie rekindling their love. Oh yes those scenes were my favourites. Although I may have complained about there being too much drama at times, I have to say that not once whilst I was reading was I ever bored. I didn't ever want to put the book down, only when I had to.

"I effin need you and I need you to forgive me. I need that more than anything in the world! I need you to make me good."

I feel kind of.. um sad, dissatisfied? with the end of this book as series. Yes Ellie's story may be over, and she may have the ending I feel like she deserved after all the crap life has dealt her. But it felt to me like there was still many things left unfinished and I was left wondering what happened to certain characters. I just wanted more.

"With glasses, covered in tattoos. A real effin work of art, a tortured soul with a heart of gold, who F's like an animal and will love me till my dying day."

I have my own issues with the editing of this book but I appreciate that that is a publisher problem, not down to Karina. I find it really hard to believe that this book went through any kind of editing process, and I'm baffled as to how so many errors slipped through in to the final book. In the Amazon UK version anyway.

"These violent delights have violent ends

And in their triumph die, like fire and powder..."

    -Romeo and Juliet

What a thrilling conclusion to such a take-no-prisoners series. Bold Tricks takes place immediately following the stunning ending to Shooting Scars without a moments pause. There is danger. Sex. Love. And best of all, resolution to the nagging question of who will Ellie choose

"On one side of me was Camden McQueen, on the other was Javier Bernal. One more light than dark. One more dark than light. Both men had come for me, both men had loved me, and both of them I had underestimated."

Ellie, has once again, found herself between a rock (Camden) and a hard place (Javier); cue music.

Between car chases, gun battles, and plenty of pissing contests, there were moments of intense emotion and clarity

"But when you’re told over and over again about how immoral you are, how bad, how wicked, how unlikable how terrible you are, it’s hard to hear anyone say any different. I felt like a fraud being good just as I felt like a fraud being bad."

And what was the focus of this torrid love story instead becomes a study of the human condition through the eyes of Ellie Watt.

The growth of her character over the events that took place in On Every Street to now are worth the journey. There is a duality to her character: unbreakable yet fragile, right but SO wrong. For so long I was Team Javier (aka Team BatSh*tCrazy) and I still am, but I am Team Ellie all the way. Her narration and inner monologue throughout this series is heartbreaking.

....and Camden McQueen. Well, I wasn't always his biggest fan. It's hard to compete with Javier but there is something so endearing about his love and loyalty for Ellie

" I don't want to love you, Ellie, but I do love you. I cant stop myself."

But that doesn't mean you Team Camden people should count Javier out, because he might just surprise you...

" Oh angel, you forget. You're the only one who gave me a soul. If I don't have one anymore, it's not my fault. "

These characters are not innocent. They've each played a role as villain. But there is a humanity underlying between all of them (Javier too!) that leaves you second guessing, holding your breath, and praying for resolution.

If you're looking for a series that sets the bar for other books in terms of character depth, emotion and plot,THIS, is the one.

Instead of recapping this story, all I want to do is get right t

Instead of recapping this story, all I want to do is get right to the point and BOAST ABOUT HOW UNBELIEVABLE THIS END TO THE TRILOGY IS! These characters ripped my heart out, completely changed how it beat, and put it back in my chest to make me feel everything that they felt. I cannot even begin to describe the roller coaster of emotions and events that took place in this book.

If you haven't read the first two books, you NEED to! If you have, all I can say is Bold Tricks starts out with Ellie, Camden and Javier on the road/run together, each having different motives and agendas. Will they come together to ultimately take care of the business they wish to finish, or will they all crumble, crash and burn along the way? And most importantly, how will they each come to see their end? You will definitely find out, of course, after ripping your hair out, screaming, crying and saying plenty of "OH GODs". Yes, you will get there.

"I don't think you and I can ever go back to being the people we were before."

The action. OH MAN THE ACTION! Being on the road together, between two men that hate each other but love her, Ellie is forced to confront her feelings as well as theirs. In the midst of trying to reclaim one of their very own, Ellie must deal with her fears and where she stands with both Javier and Camden. The scenes between these three are filled with tension, uncertainty, regret and straight up craziness. Camden/Ellie on one edge with unspoken words and pain dividing them, and then Ellie/Javier on another edge with spite and anger filling the space between, makes for one messed up trifecta.

"You know I'm doing all of this for you, my angel. I wouldn't do this for anyone else, not ever."

Ellie has grown so much. She's come to terms with the lies she's told, the bad decisions she's made and the decisions she HAD to make to save herself and the one person she truly loves. Revenge was everything she wanted since she was a little girl, but can she put that aside and choose a better way, a better life? Can she right all of the wrongs she's made along the way and if not, at least make up for them? Her love for Camden is astounding and the actions she takes in Bold Tricks really show her coming full circle with many in her life, accepting them for who they truly are and giving their place in her life rightful meaning. I love Ellie. This book is her story and she truly owns it.

"I f***ing need you and I need you to forgive me. I need that more than anything in the world! I need you to make me good."

"Then the sun rose and his lips lightened my soul and his heart set me free. And I was able to move on."

My heart belongs to Camden. No matter how much I love Javier, Camden has a way of seeping into your soul and healing any cracks that might exist. In Bold Tricks, Camden is destroyed. He's trying his best to deal with the past mistakes both he and Ellie made in the name of their turbulent situations, in the name of others and in the name of love. He's broken and trying to put his emotions aside and do what's right for Ellie and for himself. But, can he keep his love for her out of it and look past her one downfall, Javier? Karina made me feel Camden to the core. His devotion to Ellie is unwavering and the lengths he goes to in this book to prove that to her is heart stopping.

"You broke me, you broke my f***ing heart."

"Ellie Watt, you're more beautiful than you've ever been."

Just when you think you get and understand Javier, he surprises you all over again. This bad guy is awful to the core, but there's still a part of me that lives for him, lives for his wicked yet dangerous persona and his messed up, obsessive love. Every move he makes throughout this book is carefully calculated and without revealing too much, he keeps your heart painfully situated in your throat. At every turn I second guessed him. Can I trust him? Is he going to turn on Ellie/Camden? What is his ulterior motive or does he not have one? I was sick with confusion. I wanted him to be bad but good, and show that soft side again that he once showed to Ellie. But there was too much..too much that happened in the past and too much that was still affecting his state of mind to allow any sliver of his goodness to show through.

"That's what I hated most about Javier, that there was always a kernel of truth to his words, a truth that made you fall for the lies."

"Believe me, angel, you don't want to see what comes out in the dark."

Bold Tricks was suspense on steroids; a stand up roller coaster with a faulty safety chest restraint and one bad a** mother of a time! Karina Halle has got IT. She knows how to plot out every single twist and turn in a series, knows how to write deep and complicated characters and knows how to BLEED the feelings out of her readers. She also has a fantastic way of making raw, hot, passionate sex and sobering betrayal taste so sweet and gritty at the same time.

I hid in the bathroom and read the end of this book. I cannot say what transpired but there was calmness, screams, smiles and tears. In which order? Of course you have to read to find out. It was an amazing end to an equally amazing series and I've been in a TAT hangover since I finished. Thrilling yet enticing and emotional, Bold Tricks along with the entire Artists Trilogy Series, brands you and makes you care deeply about a world and characters that you forget are not real, but in the pages of these books, are as real as real gets!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Where to start? At the end of Shooting Scars our three main characters are forced to work together—and awkward doesn’t begin to cover it.
Javier quickly proves he can’t be trusted (shocking, I know) and violence and pain ensue.
Ellie—oh Ellie, she just can’t catch a break. Her past won’t let her go, her present is all pain, and her future doesn’t look much better.
Camden—I need a moment—I love Camden. Even after On Every Street, Javi was unable to sway my affection. With everything that comes at Camden, he rises to the occasion. Most men would react or lash out (hola Javier) and don’t get me wrong, Camden has his moments, but ultimately he’s exactly who he has always been: the one man who loves Ellie exactly as she is. He wants her happy, whole, and his. And he will stop at nothing to help her get everything she needs.
Karina tells the story brilliantly. There are a lies and violence galore, but would you expect less? This is Ellie’s life, and it’s been filled with crap. The way Karina writes Ellie’s story and her climb from the depths she has sunk is brilliant. Is Ellie perfect? No. But she’s dedicated to finding her way back to something good—whatever that may be.
I absolutely loved that Javier got his due. If he had died or been killed, Ellie’s choice would have been moot. By actually making a decision and following through, we see Ellie’s strength once again.
Am I happy she chose Camden? Hell yes! Their good and bad balance each other. They get the true HEA that they deserve. What more can we expect from such a high intensity story? All Ellie has ever wanted is someone who knows all of her and still loved her, a family, a life she could be proud of. Karina gives her all of it—just perfect.

What an ending! Bold Tricks had me on the edge of my seat, gripping the blankets, hyperventilating, crying, throwing my kindle, picking it back up (glad it was not injured!), and cuddling with it at the end. Yes, all those emotions. And more. So let's try and dissect that a little shall we?

It is no secret that I love me some Javier. No, it really doesn't make sense. Yes I know he is a drug lord and kills people for fun. No I haven't had my head checked recently, why do you ask? That being said, I was never sure he was the right one for Ellie. I always described my love for Javier as - vacation boyfriend. You know, the guy you meet on vacation, that you have a steamy week or so with, you do things together, you get to be someone else for a time, and then you go home to your life. He is a bit unstable for a long term relationship.

Poor Ellie is certainly put through the ringer in this last installment of The Artist Trilogy. She learns some things, looses some things, and is not sure where things stand between her and the two men in her life. Even though she sometimes sees herself as weak and not worthy of love, we really see her pull up her bootstraps and face down some things I hope none of us ever have to deal with. She turns out in the end to be the strongest character in the series.

And Camden, sweet sexy tattoo covered Camden ... well, after some of the things that went down in Shooting Scars he isn't so sweet and innocent anymore. But I still hurt for him. After everything he went through to get back to Ellie, and then the things he saw ... well let's just say he starts off a bit confused and shaken. He doesn't know where things stand, where he wants things to stand, with him and Ellie.

And then everything goes to hell in the ways you and I have come to expect from reading Halle's books. Does it end in an HEA? Who does Ellie end up with? Does everyone even survive? You will have to read it to find out. Perfect ending to a fabulous trilogy. Well done!

After unique and exciting Sins & Needles and after intense a

After unique and exciting Sins & Needles and after intense and emotional Shooting Scars believe me that THIS is going to be the most phenomenal and mind-blowing instalment in the series!

The unthinkable has happened - Ellie, Camden and Javier have to unite to dig themselves out of the mess they created in previous book. But is it even possible for the three of them to cooperate after everything that had happened? Everyone wants to do things their own way and so the wildest ride of their lives begins. Will Ellie get her long-sought revenge? And will she ever be able to find peace and happiness?

Ellie's state of mind is not at good place at the beginning of this book. She made various mistakes she deeply regrets and she is a different woman than the one we used to know in previous instalments. Seeing everything through Ellie's eyes made me dizzy. All that raw passion and her desperation to feel loved, to feel alive... Karina Halle definitely did not make it easy for her readers, but I have to love her for her ability to make me feel completely engrossed in her story no matter what is happening!

Another thing that is most definitely worth of mentioning are sex scenes. Written by Karina Halle, they are never robotic or meaningless. They are always raw, emotional and memorable! I loved how action-packed this book was from the very beginning. Full of adrenalin, excitement and constant present of danger. The moment things calmed down a little bit, something else happened. Believe me, this book will blow your mind and Camden will steal your heart!

So much has happened in Bold Tricks! I was shocked, I was mesmerized and I was constantly on my toes. It was one hell of a ride and fabulous conclusion to the trilogy. To say I loved it would be understatement. I devoured every single word and I'm sad it is over. Thank you Karina for sharing Ellie's story with us. This series will stay with me forever!

Ever read a book, or a series, and feel the need to climb a mountain or a rooftop and just yell "I LOVE THIS BOOK!"? Well this series, as all Karina Halle series, has given me that feeling. I don't even think I can do this book (or the series for that matter) justice in a review. Because I'm afraid it would mostly be me gushing about how much I loved it. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Its action-packed, sexy, and emotional. It takes the reader through a range of emotions... I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat, and I was petrified for Ellie in the course of 226 pages. There were moments where I wanted to throw my Kindle, and moments where I just wanted to hug the characters. There were times when I felt frustrated and happy and sad all at the same time. That is not something that happens with every book I read, much less with every book in a series. The Artists Trilogy is a wild ride, and I wouldn't have changed a thing about the final installment. I thought it wrapped up perfectly and left me satisfied with what happened to the characters. And considering I was really emotionally invested in them, I think that was a pretty tough feat to accomplish.

This is a fantastic finish to a FANTASTIC, MUST READ, NOT LIKE ANYTHING OUT THERE SERIES!

It's no secret that I love Karina Halle's writing and this series is no different. BUT I also love reading in general. I read A LOT, all kinds of genres and I can honestly say that I love this book as a BOOK LOVER. Bold Tricks wasn't an easy ride, but I think it finishes the series nicely.
These are not the characters we met in Sins & Needles and they SHOULD NOT be. This series is so action packed, edgy and unpredictable. Each book evolved with a series of events and character developments that lead us to the new Javier, Camden and Ellie. And, how could I not LOVE the new Camden and Ellie? They are a result of all of the things I enjoyed about this series- the intensity, suspense, unpredictability and yes, the raw heartache. This book, along with every other of the series, took me on an emotional roller coster. I was scared, pissed, excited, ecstatic, murderous and more than anything, I LOVED the ride.

I strongly recommend this to anyone who loves excellent writing and books that draw you in and evoke every emotion imaginable.

¿On one side of me was Camden McQueen, on the other Javier Berna

“On one side of me was Camden McQueen, on the other Javier Bernal. One more light than dark, one more dark than light. Both men had come for me. Both men had loved me. And both of them I had seriously underestimated.”

If I could I would rate this 5+ stars… this book is the perfect ending of an amazing, epic, and one-in-a-kind book series. I highlighted on every page just to hold on to this awesomeness. I can’t even describe how sad I am having to say goodbye to my dear Ellie, loveable Camden, and favorite psychopath Javier – I’ll truly miss them. Bold Tricks was entertaining, gritty, steamy, heart wrenching, heart stopping, and simply perfect. If I could fall more in love with Karina’s writing then I’d have after reading Bolt Tricks. She developed the story’s ending in such great way that you can only love it. Her writing had spice and she didn’t disappoint in keeping me on edge throughout the book. Her writing is sharp, edgy, addictive – she hooks you with having no attention to let you go.

Did I hate Javier while reading Bold Tricks? Oh yes I certainly did hate him on many occasions but I also felt utterly sorry for him. I want to believe –despite finishing BT- that deep down he cared and truly loved Ellie all along. Yeah he has weird way of showing it –in a psycho way, to be clear- but he was still loveable in BT. He was still the master of manipulation and played his mind-tricks pretty well. He was the drug lord we came to know and love, and his hunger for power never lessened throughout the book. Many things made me gasp in shock, ‘cause after all, you never mess with Javier; he will come for you… and oh boy he did. I was literally yelling at my kindle cause in the last 30percent Karina put some serious stuff in it. My heart was feeling like on an effing roller-coaster: one minute I was all happy, sitting on my cloud nine, then BAM in the next minute it felt like someone ripped my heart out and put in on a platter. Brilliant, but my poor heart… nevertheless, I will miss Javier and his special way of showing Ellie, his Angel, how much he loved her.

You want to know my feelings toward Camden now? No words, really none that could describe my deep adoration toward him. He’s effing perfect!! He’s hot, caring, kinky, all man, and just yummy. Who wouldn’t want him *hehe* He was my hero in BT and I adored his determination. He never stopped trying or thinking about giving up –he fought until the bitter end. He knew what he wanted and he didn’t give up until he had it. Of course my lil heart hurt for him when reading about his pain; the memories which haunted him after seeing Ellie get a bit too cozy with Javier on the balcony. But, he was so strong in BT and tried to focus on the here and now. All he had left was the now, the past didn’t exist and he knew he had to move on. Geez, he was awesome…so awesome that I envy Ellie.

My dear Ellie, the strongest female character ever… again she got fooled by the man she ones loved and trusted… again she hurt by the man that always had her back, never gave up on her, and always loved her…. again she tried to see the good in him until she saw right through him…until she saw what she should have seen all along… finally she saw the things Camden always saw in her and finally accepted them.
She suffered in BT; both mentally as physically and it made me sad to feel her disappointment throughout so many situations. She lost so many people in BT that I asked myself how can she still be so strong and move on? Love was and is the answer… Ellie loves and she does everything for the people she loves. I loved reading the book in her pov –feeling her happiness, confusion, as well as sorrow. She had it tough, sitting between two men that would and did kill for her wasn’t easy…but eventually she made her choice, a choice she knew would bring her joy in life. Joy she finally deserved!

In BT a lot of sad things happened, you read how some ugly truths come out but also read about many blissful, life-changing events. It holds some surprises and makes you hold your breath. It never gets boring and it keeps you on edge most of the same… I can’t say that I disliked anything; furthermore, I was the happiest person when I finished. The epilogue is just aaww and EPIC. I would have loved and given an arm or leg to switch position with Ellie at the end… that’s all I’m saying to the HEA ;)

Really if you haven’t started this series you truly miss out on one of the best books/series ever!

    Some of my favorite quotes:

“That’s what I hated most about Javier, that there was always a kernel of truth to his words, a truth that made you fall for the lies.”

“You know what you mean to me, angel. You know the length that I’ll go to, all to make sure you get justice.”

“The us that was is gone. This is the new us.”

“He was a loose cannon, a wild card, and it was the moment I underestimated him that he’d totally pull the rug out from under us.”

“I’m nearsighted. … But at least I can see you clearly. The things up close. The things that matter.”

“I know now what I didn’t know then, that for some people love is never enough.”

    My rating: 5 of 5 ¿¿

Elli Watt feels like she is stuck between a rock and a hard place.......literally. So much has happened she can barely keep her head on straight, and now she is stuck between two men who have all but torn her heart to pieces. Javier is her past, she can no longer trust him. He has used her once too many times and whatever soul he may have once possessed, has long since disappeared. Camden is her future, he was all goodness, but she is afraid she may have brought darkness and damage to his heart. So much so, she isn't sure he will recover. Here she is, between these two men, the three of them still chasing down the monster who started it all.

Travis Raines has disappeared into South America, protected by his cartel and taking with him Ellie's mother and her good friend Gus. Javier has the connections to find out where he is hiding and Ellie and Camden have no choice but to go along if they want to get Ellie's loved ones back. That doesn't mean they have to trust Javier. Surviving several cartel attacks, the trio plus a handful of enforcements end up trudging through jungle to get to Travis' hiding place, when once again the rug is pulled out from under. And both Camden and Ellie are forced to make choices that could have a permanent impact.

In the end, it all comes down to one final showdown, where faith, trust and love are tested and tried, and redemption can be found.

    ****

It was a GRAND finale!!!! OMG.... so friggin exciting from beginning to end!!! You have to read every single book of this series in sequence...... I'm gonna do it again in a few months, but then back to back......and it'll be orgasmic!!!!

I thought Javier was completely gone. Lost to the dark side in this final episode. His was such a tragic decline, but the sick darkness that was there from the beginning just grew like a cancer when there was no light in his life to balance it. No morals, no ethics, and any residue feelings were easily shoved aside in favour of the dark and vengeful lunacy that ruled him. In the end, however, a surprising moment of lucidity, an instant of humanity where a just moral choice was his. And he took it.

Amazing Camden. I hurt for someone who is forced by circumstance to darken his soul by stepping so far outside of his comfort zone, he is crossing every one of his moral boundaries. But Camden gives it all for love, because for him life without Ellie or his son would be meaningless. His transformation over the course of this trilogy is dramatic. He becomes a true 'protector' of what is his, his woman, his family.......at any and all cost. The heart of an artist, the soul of a warrior.

From an angry, bitter and vengeful scrap of a con-artist, Elli went through a confused phase when dark and light battled inside her, to eventually morph into a woman who craved light and happiness, willing to let go demons of her past. But when those demons weren't willing to let go of her and hers, she was strong enough to fight back and stand for the future she now wanted to believe in with all her heart. Even if that future was not guaranteed, she was willing to put all of herself out there, just to have a chance.

I have loved these characters so much.... Karina Halle has managed to create three completely different people and allow them to evolve around each other, each keeping their own integrity, but influenced by each of the others. The plot and suspence where once again so intense, I was unable to find an appropriate spot to put the book down, so I just kept reading until I was done. Absolutely phenomenal read!!!

¿Exceptional, edgy, stimulating and emotional thrillride!!¿

Talk about a gut wrenching finale! This book concludes the Artist’s Trilogy nicely and ties up pretty much every loose end. However, the way things pan out, of course there is a love triangle to resolve and it gets resolved in more ways than one, though I can definitely tell, some people will be rioting from the end result.

This book starts off right after book 2 “Shooting Scars”. I absolutely love that it was written this way because it reads like one really long suspenseful novel. We find Javier, Camden and Ellie stuck together unwillingly, but with similar goals in mind still. Mainly ‘Kill Travis’. And that’s if they don’t kill each other first. I can’t help but think of ‘Kill Bill’ throughout this quest of theirs as it turns into one deadly ride after another, all across Mexico and Central America. The Cartels are still a huge threat for the trio as they saddle up to rescue Gus, Ellie’s old friend and possibly now, Ellie’s Con Artist mother, but they don’t dominate the scenery as they did in book 2. We get to see another side of each character. Like it or not, it’s time to swallow the hard truths about Ellie that she didn’t even know about herself. Though I did find some plot lines were predictable, but still, some were not.

The sex in this one, whoooaaaa! Yes there was plenty of it and it was hot! Several scenes were made up of just sex so be ready to steam it up.

Okay, I admit…the guy I was rooting for, the one I really wanted to win Ellie’s heart…well, it’s devastatingly sad that it turns out the way it did but, I have to say, the best man for Ellie pans out. This book is so chock full of action, chase scenes and bombings galore, it did begin to feel like I was watching a Michael Bay movie playing out before my eyes. This is okay for me but some can cause some fatigue for a reader not into that much action.

The story unfolds slowly at first with Ellie’s thoughts and musings dominating the chapters but, once you get past that part, wow, there’s A LOT of action! Just when you think the story is over, another twist happens and then yet another comes slamming in. The amount of back stabbing in this one was atrocious and I really was wondering how Ellie was going to pull herself out of each mucky situation and come out alive. She’s definitely grown from the first novel in the series, turning into one tough chica, without remorse and hardened to the core. It made me wonder how she could really come out the other end emotionally and mentally intact, but that’s for readers to read and find out for themselves if she does or doesn’t

An epic conclusion to a very fast paced trilogy that leaves you saddened that it’s really over. A definite must read to your list this year. What are you waiting for? Just beware, when you're done, here comes the withdrawals!
    5 Stars!!!!

I received an ARC of this ebook from the author for an honest review. Thank you :)

    Stunning Finale to Sizzling Series
    With more lives

    Stunning Finale to Sizzling Series

With more lives at stake and games in motion, Ellie, Camden and Javier form an uneasy alliance that will take them from the treacherous streets of inner-city Mexico to the wilds of the Honduran jungles in order to find their freedom. But with liberty just on the horizon, the cost might come at their own redemption.

Ellie, Camden, and Javier form a bizarre alliance after the plan of Javier's for Ellie to poison Travis Raines ended in total disaster. Both Javier and Camden had come to rescue Ellie once they learned that her dinner date was actually being held at Raines' Veracruz estate. It was her mother that actually blew her cover at the party, so shocked to see her daughter next to Travis that she called her by name, dropping the serving tray she'd been carrying. Ellie took advantage of the momentary confusion to run like hell, straight into the headlights of the Jeep Javier had parked in the jungle, right up to the edge of the estate lawn. Ellie was sure she was dead until Javier and Camden called out to her and hustled her into the Jeep, taking off almost before everyone was in the car.

The problem was that Gus, who'd come down with Camden to rescue Ellie from Javier, had been shot in the stomach. Javier told Ellie that Travis Raines now had Gus. But before they could go rescue Gus they had to go get his youngest sister to safety, as she was too vulnerable to a rival cartel. But Violetta lives in Mexico City, which isn't too close to Travis Raines' compound in the middle of the Sierra de Agalta National Park, which was located in the middle of the jungle in Honduras. A compound that could only be reached by helicopter of hiking through the Honduran jungle.

Hiking in, their small group finally stops to rest for the night. Ellie sits between Camden's legs and leaning back against his chest. When she wakes she discovers that she's completely alone, completely alone in the jungle. Everyone and their equipment - all gone. No one answers her yells. Terrified for herself and Camden she heads off in the same direction they'd been going the day before, when she suddenly spies a bloody, shredded canvas. A few feet away she spots Camden, flat out on the ground. She manages to rouse him and he tells her what little he knows, which matches what she's already figured out; they've been abandoned in the middle of a jungle in Honduras.

With Gus and her mother still Travis' captives they have no choice but to go on and do their best to rescue them. Eventually they locate the estate. Once inside the compound they set out to rescue Gus and Amelie, though they know their odds have gone from slim to virtually non-existent. They locate and free Ellie's mom, only to learn that Gus was not, and had never been, at the compound. Javier had lied to them, again.

If faced with it, would Ellie save Camden or her mother? Would any of them make it out of this trap alive? And if they did, how would they find Gus and rescue him? If they pulled that miracle off how would they get Ben away from his mother? So many risky things to do, but they loved each other and that would have to be enough to see them through. . .

Ellie's slow belief that she could be good was enjoyable to watch. Even though she made mistakes, she learned that she could forgive herself the past and let it go. Especially if Camden still lived her and believed in her, which at times was a giant question mark, for she had destroyed him over and over again through the years. Ellie has become a more and more sympathetic character as the series progressed, which made Camden's devotion to her more believable. Would his love for her outweigh her mistakes as she learned that she was worthy of being loved, and of loving in return? Watching her discover the truth of what Gus had told her, that love and obsession are not the same thing, was both painful and liberating.

Meanwhile, Camden has slowly revealed more layers and depth as the story has developed. He also has a dark side, which I think he possessed before Ellie shattered his heart in high school, and again later on. It was a relief seeing him let that anger and rage lose on appropriate targets, as no one can contain that much suppressed violence without eventually snapping. His dreams in this book were interesting, because the darkness he saw could easily have been Javier or at part of himself. The question is, did he recognize that, or was he seeing the easy interpretation? Could Ellie and Camden overcome the overwhelming odds stacked against them? You'll just have to read this final book in the series to find out.

I try my best to keep my reviews spoiler free, but if you haven't read the first two books in the Artists Trilogy, then read at your own risk...

Wow. Just wow. This is defiantly my favorite of the series. Although I did like the multiple POV's in the second book (Shooting Stars) I didn't like the whole cheating aspect. I think I know why she did it. Having been told repeatedly that she was nothing, deserved nothing, Ellie was in fact making a self fulling prophecy. She felt she deserved the pain, she had no experience with anyone trying to save her so she had no hope that Camden would. But enough about the second book..
I didn't fully understand what I was getting into, but half way through the first book I know I couldn't stop until the end. Three days with practically no sleep and many, many coffees later I am finished but still left wondering what the hell I just read.

In this book Ellie has finally come to terms with what she wants and will do everything she can to make her dreams become reality. The only thing that matters is family and she will not stop until they are all safe.
Through her loses, through her pain Ellie has come out the other side a strong, fierce, woman.
There are only a few unanswered questions that I would have liked answered, but otherwise Karina Halle gave us a thrilling finale that I don't think anyone will forget anytime soon.

Bold Tricks is the third and final book in The Artists Trilogy b

Bold Tricks is the third and final book in The Artists Trilogy by author Karina Halle. The trilogy includes the following novels:
    #0.5 On Every Street (novella)
    #1 Sins & Needles
    #2 Shooting Scars
    #3 Bold Tricks

This was a great ending to the trilogy! I am so happy I stumbled upon Sins & Needles and as soon as I read that first book I was hooked. In my opinion, this is a five-star trilogy. I would highly recommend reading the novella so you can get an understanding of Ellie and Javier's history together. The author layers these characters and gives them such a hopeful kind of darkness if that makes sense. Often I was upset with the choices made by the characters in this trilogy but I understood them because of the skillful character development. I wish I could read these books all over again for the first time. I love tons of butt-kicking action in stories and Bold Tricks had more than enough to offer! (view spoiler)

    My favorite funny/sarcastic quotes:
"Tell me, angel, what is it about that boy that make you forget who you really are? Is it the tattoos, because you know I have those....Or is it those horrible glasses of his. You know, I can look like a f***ing idiot if I really wanted to."

"'You're a sick f***,' Camden seethed at him. 'You're going to have to start coming up with more original insults. I believe you've already called me that before.'"

"It wasn't long until we came to a very high, very round building done up in pinks, oranges and blues. 'It's like the coliseum on Gay Pride Day.' Camden commented. 'You would know,' Javier sniped."

"'I can feel how nervous you are, angel,' he said. 'It's coming right off you, like sweat.' 'Can you feel this?' I stuck up my middle finger at him. He only looked amused at that. Great."

"We went around the corner to a room that said something in Spanish and Javier lightly knocked on it. A very distictive knock. Code. Funny how cartels had the same knock as those No Girls Allowed clubs back when I was in middle school."
