I Also Recommend:
I was looking for another copy of "California Suite", and this was as much as was available. Includes 'Black Folks', a favorite, which I wanted to introduce to my niece.
Recently I've purchased a number of "Best of ..." CDs, but on this occasion, my motive was different. If new to Claude Bolling, this is a good introduction. I noticed 'Black Folks' was the last cut. I can't help but wonder what how the selections were ordered.
If Claude Bolling's music is new to you, if you like a marriage of "classical music", jazz, and classically trained musicians do jazz, try this.
If you can find it, try "California Suite" with Hubert Laws. Also try Lalo Shifrin's "Return of the Marquis De Sade". Both composers have done music for the movies.
After hearing "California Suite", I wanted to see the movie. It's based on a Neil Simon play. Tried it. Alas, the DVD would not play ....
Upbeat and happy; has higher speeds as well as slow and mellow ones (please hear Sentimentale); Bolling puts together a CD with a song for many different moods; a CD that is relaxing, exciting and fun with a touch of Jean-Pierre Rampal as a compliment to this enjoyable collection of songs. Was this review helpful?
