Overview

"Silly of me to blame it on dates, but so it happened to be. Dammit, it was the Twenties, and we had to be smarty." - Dorothy Parker

The Algonquin Round Table, or "The Vicious Circle" as it was commonly known, came about much like so many social gatherings. A few friends get together, have a good time, and decide it would be fun to do it on a regular basis.

Now give them all literary or theatrical pedigrees and larger than life personalities. Then put them in a time and place that encourages artistic creativity, excessive social drinking and some rather outrageous behavior.

Lastly, give them national exposure. What emerges is a group that not only sets the standard for contemporary literary style and wit, but helps change forever the face of American culture.

This collection contains early poems, stories and anecdotes from seven of the Algonquin Round Table writers: Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, Franklin Pierce Adams, Heywood Broun, Edna Ferber, Ruth Hale, and Donald Ogden Stewart.

    Oceanlight's Deputy Application

"Greetings. My name is Oceanlight, and l hope to become deputy. Some qualities about me that would benefit StoneClan are that l am unflinchingly loyal, very active, and compassionate. If l am chosen to help govern this clan, l will help it grow and thrive to be one of the most large and healthy clans in the RP world. I have good grammar, l am intelligent, l am brave. When Keystar departs for StarClan, l will make sure StoneClan will never fall under inactivity or neglect. If l was deputy, l would use my position to help others and never abuse it. Please consider me as one of your deputy choices. Even if you choose another, l will continue to be a loyal warrior of yours. Thank you." She dipped her head and jumped down.

    -Clan Meeting Of StoneClan-

The large tabby leaped up top the High Branch, looking down at his clan. "All who are old enough to catch their own prey, gather around," he called. "Firstly, we choose our Deputy. IceTail, you are the new Deputy of StoneClan. Serve StoneClan to your absolute fullest," he neowed and smiled. "OceanLight, you are the Co-Deputy. Serve StoneClan ti the fullest of your abillities," he meowed. "Second, we have a new Co-Medicine Cat. SandyFir, you will become the Co-Medicine Cat of StoneClan. Serve StoneClan to the fullest of your abillities," he meowed and smiled down at her. "Next, we have two new Kits ready for Apprenticeship. SnowKit and Tiny please step forward," he called as they stepped forward. "SnowKit you have reached the required age of 6 moons and are ready for Apprenriceship. From this moment forward until you recieve your warrior name you will be known as SnowPaw. Your mentor will be IceTail. IceTail you have shown kindness and loyalty, pass these skills to this new Apprentice," he smiled and touched noses with SnowPaw. "TinyKit you have reached the required age of 6 moons and are ready for Apprenticeship. From this moment on, until you recieve your Medicine Cat name you will be known as TinyPaw. Your mentor will be SandyFire. SandyFire you have shown caring and ambition, pass these skills to this new Apprentice," he meowed and touched noses with TinyPaw. He waited until the cheering died down before he spoke once more. "We have had a great start. Though, everyone needs to advertise for this clan to grow even bigger," he meowed. "Clan Dismissed," he called and leaped down from the High Branch.
