Meet the Author

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:

In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story-telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense-driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.

Nicky works full-time and writes in her off-hours, few though they may be! In the next few years she hopes to retire from her day job and concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing.

When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot.

Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting backstory, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story.

Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year.

When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate.

Great book in a great series!

Bonded is a prequel to the other books in the Law of the Lycan series by Nicky Charles. Read Bonded firs, then go on to The Mating, The Keeping and finally the Finding. Nicky has generously taken her time to write these books, offered them to us at no charge (she does suggest a donation to your local animal shelter), AND they are all great reads. Can't wait for her next book, I'm hoping for a speedy write........lol.

    Captivating!

Nicky's series about lycans has been fantastic not only as stories. She has spent so much time creating a whole new world that is detailed, well thought out and facinating. Bonded gives the other books a whole new perspective and is completely captivating. The characters all have so much depth to them and are always more than they first seem. Her talent for description makes you feel almost as if you are right there watching everything happen and can hear what the person thinks and feel what the person feels. This book is well worth your time as is the rest if the series.

    Love it love it

This is her 4th book in the series. I highly recommanded all her books especially this one. The books are sexy, thrilling, and lenghty as no cost to the readers. Read it n tell your reader friends about this masterful writer. If I could, i would give this series 10 stars+. Happy reading. :)

Bonded is what has just happened between me & mr. Charles' Lycan society.

After reading the Mating, the Keeeping, and the Finding, I was so sad that the stories were over. It has been about 6 months since I read all 3 books. When I saw Bonded I was soo happy. The book had my emotions running the gamut. I was happy, I was sad. I feared for half breed adults, but was horrified about was being done to the children and of course the humans & the lycans that mated with them. I hope you are writing Damien's story, because I imagine you will write something as good as the others. I can't wait for the next book. 5 stars is not enough.

    Love this author.

Nicky Charles is an excellent writer. It's incredible that she is still giving her books away. If you enjoy paranormal romance with some mystery thrown in, this series is for you.

Can't Get Enough!! PLEASE WRITE MORE

I have now read all 4 books in the Lycan series and can't believe how good these are! Bonded kept me up almost all night. I couldn't put it down. Nicky knows how to develop characters and Reno and Brandi are no exception. I would recommed this to anyone who likes romance. I had never read paranormal before this series, thinking it would be weird but it isn't at all. Nicky ---please keep writing more in this series as I haven't found another paranormal series I like as well. I want to find out how all of the characters are doing and love that they are all related somehow. Again, please write more--my "inner wolf" needs more!

    Very intense

Of all the books in this series this was the best. I had a very difficult time putting down my Nook and do my household chores and not neglect my hubby and our little dog. Somehow I managed to read all 998 pages in two days. I will certainly make my donation to a rescue center for dogs. The author is an excellent writer and knows how to weave a beautiful love story

    Amazing!!!

This book is just as good as the other three...no disappointment here! It is a prequil to the others but i read the others first because they came out first and going back in time was no problem for me. You will not want to put this book down!! I also love how Nicky briefly mentions the characters from the other books and gives you a time line based on that. This book starts taking place before the Mating but continues to go on and ends up taking place during the same time as the other books. I always say read it as the author wrote it. I love all this whole series and am waiting for the next one...please hurry and give us more!!!

    Word Wise

Bonded, Mating, Keeping, Finding...not the order written, but definitly the order to read these in. I've been enjoying these books since I received my NOOK about a year ago. THESE ARE REAL BOOKS. FREE, no monatary cost. But the way your mind will respond to the lessons in thse books will change you. You'll understand man and animals better. In that sense the "cost" is no longer FREE. You'll be in debt. How you deal with it is up to you, ( the author suggests a donation to an animal shelter.)
The charcters have depth, you care about them, you'll laugh and cry. The situations are intriguing, and the combination of person/wolf is very well thought out and presented in a new and different way.
The sexual content in these books have purpose, it rounds the characters into complete beings. If you don't like it, skip ahead, but realize some important info is often intermingled in with the physical stuff.
The battles, the blood and injuries are well orchestrated. While sometimes gory, there is reason behind the scenarios. The author lets your imagination flick from one point of view to another. The chaacters are not static, and the situations aren't cookie cutter obvious. Sometimes the bad guy wins.
I'm looking forward to the next installment. I'd give more stars if possible.

    wordy and blah

It was so long and boring that i couldn't get through the first two chapters....and what I did was pulling teeth. all of the TECHNICAL stuff took away from the story. The skill of a real author is having the linguistics of a story meld and flow effortlessly INTO the story. Not have the MC sit and read a book for hours and hours and drone on and on about it.
