All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
The Dana Legg Stage Band is a standard modern jazz big band. Its music is sometimes funky and Mark Fechner takes a heated EWI electronic wind instrument solo on "Dawn's Awakening," but much of the music is hard bop. Nick Lane, who like trombonist Legg is from Iowa, contributed four of the arrangements/compositions while Legg wrote two. All of the other songs are of recent mid-'90s vintage except for the ancient "Lassus Trombone," one of five numbers that feature solos from the colorful Legg. Worth the Purchase

There is some really cool stuff on this album. The title track is not my favorite, although it is a good tune. I do like Chiaki's Fantasy, and Gary Parker does an outstanding job on Dawn's Awakening. Dana's arrangement of the fillmore classic Lassus trombone is very creative. Definitely worth the purchase.

    wrong credits

I don't know where they got this info, but the credits listed here are all wrong. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from buying my cd. This is a 19 piece big band from Chicago, and we play contemporary big band jazz.
