AT FIRST SIGHT

When she stops kissing you with her mouth open,
find the screw driver.

Buy a newly cut shank of beef.
Leave so much blood in the kitchen she has to ask what happened.

When she no longer calls you baby,
hide all the silverware between the couch cushions.

Send her there to sleep.
If she does not complain,
let the sinks in the bathroom overflow.

Bake the wedding photos in the dryer. Stand in the middle of your flood.

Call her name backwards, forwards.
Wave your arms like your chest is a runway.
She is the plane you are crashing.

When she does not reach for you, pretend it is the first time

you've met.

    Sierra DeMulder is a GENIUS!

After devouring Andrea Gibson's "Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns", I was hungry for more spoken word poetry and stumbled across the great Sierra DeMulder on YouTube. Beyond impressed, I ordered her book and was blown away. The ebbs and flows of her words draw emotion, from giggles to goosebumps to tears. I can't reccommend this book enough. This isn't your English teacher's poetry book- it's soooo much better! A completely new generation to poetry!

    I Also Recommend:

    Pay attention

The insanely talented Sierra Demulder treats us to 100% pure honest and personal poetry, sometimes shockingly honest but that's what makes this worth checking out. Here's a poet who can use words we use everyday and mix them up and throw them right back in our faces in ways I couldn't help but be impressed by which is the mark of a true artist, in my opinion. The standout poem for me would have to be the incredible "Mrs. Dahmer" which I read and re-read over and over just to completely wrap my head around. THIS is the good stuff. Pick it up.
