Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Patrice Belotte
Do you hear noises at night? When it's two in the morning and the rest of the world seems to be in a restful peace, are your eyes wide awake and your ears sensitive to the rattling, creaking, and whispering that seems to surround you? R.L. Stine, Todd Strasser, David Levithan, along with a few of their equally notable colleagues, have contributed to this spine tingling collection of tales to help you feel a little more paranoid in the depths of the night. In Strasser's tale, "YNK (You Never Know)" a possessed cell phone haunts the hands of Callie and urges her to think twice before making decisions that could hurt her, or her friends. Callie tries to blame the mysterious texts on her friends, but each claims innocence. When people donate their bodies to science after their death, sometimes their bones are assembled into skeletons which are studied through medical programs and the like. In "The Skeleton Keeper" by Levithan, the narrator is tormented at night by an incessant, yet subtle rattling. The narrator's father is forced to take his work home with him, and seeing bones around the house isn't so weird when your dad is a professional skeleton builder. It takes the narrator a few nights of sleeplessness to gather the bravery needed to discover the source of the rattling. The tales get creepier and creepier as the reader ventures through each new story. Reviewer: Patrice Belotte
