Overview

A dead body. A ramshackle gin joint. A decades-old murder. A man who can talk to the dead. How are all of these things related? ‘Boogie House’ is a macabre southern novel by the author of the fast-paced mystery ‘The Devil Came Calling.’

Rolson McKane is a deadbeat. He lost his job as a cop. His wife left him. He can’t keep his hands off the bottle. But after stumbling onto a dead body in the long-closed Boogie House, he has a new mission in life: solve the mystery of who murdered Emmitt Laveau. After all, Rolson was the one who nearly killed Emmitt’s mother in a drunken wreck.

The main suspect is a mucky-muck in the state legislature with national ambitions, and because this is small-town Georgia, no one wants to help Rolson. Sure, he’s got some help from the victim, but who will believe the confessions of a dead man? The whole town’s in the pockets of the Brickmeyers, so Rolson will have to face down the whole of Lumber Junction and his own personal demons to help give justice to the whole Laveau family.

Meet the Author

I’m the author of the first two books in the Rolson McKane series, Boogie House and The Devil Came Calling. They’re about the South, but they’re also about murders, racists, criminals, ghosts, and swamps. I’m a fan of Stephen King, Elmore Leonard, James Ellroy, Dave Robicheaux, and Charlie Huston. If any of those names perked you up, then you’ll probably like m’books. I tend to wear my influences on my sleeve. I started writing way back in the second grade, when I tried to write a horror novel called ‘The Bridge,’ where teenagers happened to get killed…on a bridge. It was fascinating, I assure you. I kept writing in bits and pieces throughout high school but picked up a real writing bug in college while studying journalism and English at The University of Georgia. (Go Dawgs!) I wrote the first draft of my first novel when I was twenty-three, and though it remains a trunk novel to this day, it gave me the tools to move onto other books. In tinkering with novel writing, I slogged through ten or twelve books in my twenties and finally landed on the idea for the first Rolson McKane book. I then tinkered with that one for several years before publishing it in 2014. I’ve since published the follow-up, ‘The Devil Came Calling’ and am working diligently on the third book in the series, ‘Dirt Merchant.’ To get access to plenty of more content, go to tblakebraddy.com and join the newsletter.
