Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Library Journal
In this adaptation of his blog www.1000awesomethings.com, Pasricha celebrates the simple pleasures of everyday living. Focusing on both tangible pleasures and simple experiences, Pasricha provides a contemporary take on everyday inspiration that skips the typical Chicken Soup for the Soul fare: "When you push the button for the elevator and it's already there," ("Ding!"); "When the boss goes out of town" ("Who's up for a three-hour lunch?"); "Peeling that thin plastic film off new electronics" ("Welcome to the world, remote control"). Other items get more substantial discussions, including the other side of the pillow, old playground equipment, hotel lobby bathrooms, the last day of school, and the five-second rule. Though tongue-in-cheek, Pasricha emerges a committed but inviting optimist, combating life's unending stream of bad news by identifying opportunities to "share a universal high five with humanity." Readers looking for simple, unsentimental pick-me-ups should find this happy browsing.

Book Review "The Book of Awesome" is just as great as the name. It's awesome. It has a bunch of short stories of the little things that you don't realize can make you smile inside your head and not notice it. One example is taking underwear right out of the dryer and putting it right on. Remember how good it felt? I bet you thought it was awesome too. Am I not right? 1,401 things that are awesome in everyday life in just one book is pretty amazing. When I started to read this book I started to be more aware of everything and caught myself smiling. This book is so intelligent, the way the author speaks out their thoughts, and I can really relate and connect to it in almost every paragraph I read. I absolutely adore this book and will keep it forever. If you read this book you'll chuckle out loud. The things it says in it about like 'Neighbors with Pools" is so interesting because we don't notice it but we do use those people during the summer. So when you're feeling a bit down and need something to cheer you up, this is what you do. You read this book. I recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor, boy or girl, adults, anyone. Maybe also to people who have a hard life, and who are brought down a lot, this book will bring you right back up there. So if it's salty fries, a good floss after tough steak, or the final seconds of untying a bit knot, then pick this book.

I love the blog that inspired this book and have been a faithful reader. This book pulls some of the entries and compiles them into a book that is great when you need a pick-me-up, have a few minutes and need something to read that you can put down, or need a conversation started. I often find myself reading an entry and then sharing it with whoever is around me. You will not be disappointed by The Book of Awesome, because its... AWESOME!

This is definitely a "feel good" read. Even the style of writing is awesome! It's a great gift idea. (I've already given 2 copies as gifts to co-workers.) It's not a story with characters and a plot, it's just of sharing of things, situations, places, etc. that are simply...awesome. A perfect example? Blowing out all the candles on your first try! Awesome!

Awesome. You find yourself, by yourself or in a group, saying "Oh yah!! That is awesome!" This book captures those things you don't really think about or realize until you read it.

I don't know what more I can say about this book that has not already been said. I feel like my words will not do it justice. What I will say is that this book is an interesting read! I also recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score." I thought that the book was just about forgiveness, I soon learned, it was about so much more. The author pulls back the curtain to his own life to offer a glimpse at the true power of forgiveness. All of that, while offering up interesting and often tears worthy stories that drives the point home. Having read it, I feel like a better person. It felt almost like therapy and help me confront some deep issues that I often treated like they weren't mine to deal with. I feel better having done that and having read this book. Maybe because this book spoke to me and not down to me. I have read a lot of books that was written like I didn't know anything. What the author of "When God Stopped Keeping Score" does is talk to you like a friend. I needed that. You might too. It is on sale here on BN.com.

This is one of those books you want to keep passing on to others. It's packed with nuggets of tales about the little things that are awesome. A majority of them are things you don't really think about, for example, driving a long stretch of road and hitting all the green lights. See, it's the little things you don't think about, but when you see it, you see yourself smiling, nodding in agreement or remembering when that happened to you. I made it my nighttime routine to read 1-3 stories before bed every night.

Theres a little girl, out lying on her own, shes got a broken heart, shes not the kid you take down for long, she knows and plays it smart, and if shes coming, shes shown no more, shes heard no whistle blowing from the door, she feels like leaving and she dont know why, without no bridges shes trapped so I sigh. Dont cross the river if you cant swim the tide, dont try denying, living on the other side, all your life you were on your own. If you want, you can ride my train, soon forget the reason that you're leaving, lose yourself and then sometimes, maybe even save yourself some grieving.
