Drinking with Grandma

It’s time for some intergenerational egg nogging.

Get ready to light the Yule log, sail the gravy boat, and get your eighty-five pound grandmother a sloshy glass of rummy nog.

Now, whatever your age, whatever your tastes, whatever your pleasures, whatever your fates, let’s all agree on one thing today: Grabbing an occasional festive drink with your mom’s mom or your son’s son bridges boundaries and crosses divides.

Once upon a time, your Grandma used to boogie. Once upon a time, your Grandma threw it down. Yes, I’m saying before you danced on tables, she danced on them too. And before you learned to twist off, she was guzzling brews.

So when the holidays hit and the families combine, it’s time to bring out the punch bowl and time to have a good time.

Because we’re not here forever and we’re not here very long.

We don’t get many chances, so toss one back before Granny’s gone.

I never knew my grandparents, but I heard stories they were great . . . so I know if they were here we’d party hard before it got too late.

AWESOME!

Successfully regifting a present to someone who wants it

What do cellophane-wrapped mugs of mini candy canes, Season 3 of Mr. Belvedere on VHS, and framed photos of someone else’s dog have in common?

They’re just what we never wanted.

But that’s okay, that’s okay—because someone else might!

Yes, now it’s time for some Regifting Magic, people. It’s time to regift like you’ve never regifted before. You’re a regifting machine if you follow these three steps to freedom:

1. Smile sweetly. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Instead, look them in the eyes while saying thank you over and over. You may also find it helpful to practice these lines (for these items): “I’ve been meaning to try that place!” (gift card to Taco Bell),

“How did you know I liked this shade of green?!” (puke green sweater), and “It’s perfect, it’s perfect—honestly, how have I even been wearing shoes all these years?!” (shoehorn).

2. Add it to your gifts-to-give pile. When you get home, make sure to write a thank-you card promptly and then toss the gift in the closet with your motorized self-twirling spaghetti fork, Streetlamps of the World page-a-day calendar, and novelty light-up ceramic angel. Let your inventory bulk up a bit so you’ve got good regift variety, and be sure to hide the stash from future regiftees. Post-it Notes with the name of the person who gave it to you can also help prevent the dreaded Boomerang Gift. Don’t let it happen to you.

3. Annnnnnd . . . regift! Remember that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. When you look at it this way, it feels like you’re doing very important gift-giving charity work. You’re a misfit present coordinator! Now, you need to be about 90 percent sure the regiftee will love the present. After all, there’s nothing wrong with gift cards to Taco Bell and light-up ceramic angels. It’s just that one goes to your backward-cap skateboarding rascal of a little cousin and the other goes to your Grandma who loves tacos.

AWESOME!

Finally finding the start of this stupid roll of tape

You think it’s gonna be easy.

But finally finding and finger-peeling the start of this stupid roll of tape takes two focused hawk eyes, a sharp set of witch’s nails, and a soft and delicate touch.

If you’re missing these you’re outta luck.

But if you’ve got all three you’re

AWESOME!

    The Awesome Book.

    Book Review

"The Book of Awesome" is just as great as the name. It's awesome. It has a bunch of short stories of the little things that you don't realize can make you smile inside your head and not notice it. One example is taking underwear right out of the dryer and putting it right on. Remember how good it felt? I bet you thought it was awesome too. Am I not right? 1,401 things that are awesome in everyday life in just one book is pretty amazing.

When I started to read this book I started to be more aware of everything and caught myself smiling. This book is so intelligent, the way the author speaks out their thoughts, and I can really relate and connect to it in almost every paragraph I read. I absolutely adore this book and will keep it forever. If you read this book you'll chuckle out loud. The things it says in it about like 'Neighbors with Pools" is so interesting because we don't notice it but we do use those people during the summer.

So when you're feeling a bit down and need something to cheer you up, this is what you do. You read this book. I recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor, boy or girl, adults, anyone. Maybe also to people who have a hard life, and who are brought down a lot, this book will bring you right back up there. So if it's salty fries, a good floss after tough steak, or the final seconds of untying a bit knot, then pick this book.

    I Also Recommend:

    I Can't Do It Justice!

I don't know what more I can say about this book that has not already been said. I feel like my words will not do it justice. What I will say is that this book is an interesting read!

I also recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score." I thought that the book was just about forgiveness, I soon learned, it was about so much more. The author pulls back the curtain to his own life to offer a glimpse at the true power of forgiveness. All of that, while offering up interesting and often tears worthy stories that drives the point home.

Having read it, I feel like a better person. It felt almost like therapy and help me confront some deep issues that I often treated like they weren't mine to deal with. I feel better having done that and having read this book. Maybe because this book spoke to me and not down to me. I have read a lot of books that was written like I didn't know anything. What the author of "When God Stopped Keeping Score" does is talk to you like a friend. I needed that. You might too. It is on sale here on BN.com.

Awesome Doesn't Begin To Describe It

I love the blog that inspired this book and have been a faithful reader. This book pulls some of the entries and compiles them into a book that is great when you need a pick-me-up, have a few minutes and need something to read that you can put down, or need a conversation started. I often find myself reading an entry and then sharing it with whoever is around me.

You will not be disappointed by The Book of Awesome, because its... AWESOME!

This book will make you feel AWESOME!

This is definitely a "feel good" read. Even the style of writing is awesome! It's a great gift idea. (I've already given 2 copies as gifts to co-workers.) It's not a story with characters and a plot, it's just of sharing of things, situations, places, etc. that are simply...awesome. A perfect example? Blowing out all the candles on your first try! Awesome!

This is one of those books you want to keep passing on to others

This is one of those books you want to keep passing on to others. It's packed with nuggets of tales about the little things that are awesome. A majority of them are things you don't really think about, for example, driving a long stretch of road and hitting all the green lights. See, it's the little things you don't think about, but when you see it, you see yourself smiling, nodding in agreement or remembering when that happened to you.

I made it my nighttime routine to read 1-3 stories before bed every night.
