Overview

The Book of Positive Quotations is perhaps the largest collection of its kind currently in print, containing 7,340 quotations on 62 subjects. And, within these subjects, the quotations are arranged according to 703 concepts.

The quotations are organized not just by individual subjects or concepts -- such as "Acceptance" or "Self-Reliance" -- but by specific aspects of, or approaches to, these concepts. For example, the "Acceptance" chapter consists of eighteen sections, such as "Acceptance Isn't Resignation" (six quotes), and the "Self-Reliance" chapter features eleven sections, such as "Accepting Responsibility for Our Errors and Mistakes" (fifteen quotes). And to provide readers with a wide selection of styles and tones, the collection includes many different ways of expressing each concept. Thus, it can be seen how smart, sensitive men and women throughout history have agreed about certain basic approaches to life -- although they have expressed these ideas in very different ways.

Change, indeed, is painful, yet ever needful. -Thomas Carlyle Security can only be achieved through constant change, through discarding old ideas that have outlived their usefulness and adapting others to current facts. -William O. Douglas You had better be ready to change your mind when needed. -Henry B. Wilson
