In this second volume of Pendragon: Before the War, tales set on the various worlds of Halla before Bobby Pendragon, readers meet Aja as a student on Veelox, following her while she foils a fellow student who has already become prey to Saint Dane. Nak Adams has programmed a "game" into the Lifeflight system, but it is actually a trap to eliminate Aja and secure the virtual dreaming device for Saint Dane. Eli Winter, the mother of future traitor Nevva, experiences a life of hardship and loss before discovering Mr. Blok and the Revivers.
