Overview

Did you truly enjoy the food you ate today? Do you really like the way you look and feel? Are you consistently enjoying great health and high energy? Bill Phillips, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Body-for-LIFE, believes your answer to all of the above questions should be, "Yes!" He feels that food should be a source of pure pleasure. A source of positive, abundant energy! A "sure thing" in a world of much uncertainty. Phillips, who's widely regarded as today's most successful fitness author, has firm beliefs which go against the grain of today's popular weight-loss methods. "Diets, all of them, are potentially dangerous, most always dumb and ultimately a dead-end street!" he insists. "Eventually, anyone and everyone who's at all concerned with their health must learn how to feed their body, not how to starve it." Instead, Phillips encourages a safe and sound solution which includes eating balanced, high-nutrient meals, frequently throughout the day. "This is what works in the long run," he explains.

Rich with common sense and science, Eating for Life has rhyme and reason. It is specific. There are very clear dos and don'ts which help people enjoy food and improve their overall fitness. Bill's approach, which he calls the "Eating for Lifestyle," has already helped thousands of people break free from the dieting dilemma and discover that, contrary to pop-culture belief, food is friend, not foe. Used intelligently, it nourishes the body and mind, satisfies the appetite, calms cravings, renews health and lifts energy. Like Bill Phillips' Body-for-LIFE, this is a tell-it-like-it-is book. There's no promise of a quick fix. No metabolic tricks or so-called miracles. Just straight-forward, clear, concise, practical and appropriate principles for eating right... for life.

I have never been one to diet, so this book's practical advice is what attracted me to it. There's no calorie counting, or 'dieting'. You get one free day. I've lost 7lbs. in my first month just by realizing that my portions were way too big. We cook out of this every day. One word of caution: if you have kidney troubles, and are not lifting weights, watch out for the protein intake. This is a very protein-heavy lifestyle, which is ideal if you are also following his Body for Life guidelines. Since I do cardio 3 times a week, and light lifting I reserved the whey protein smoothies to when I actually lifted, and substitute vegetables out for some of the protein portions, and have done well so far. The recipes are very well laid out, and are good for beginning cooks. I've always believed that you cannot adhere to a healthy lifestyle if you refuse to cook. He makes the meals easy enough for even the most novice of cooks. And for more advanced cooks - there's no excuse to not eat out of this book. The ingredients are readily available, inexpensive, and the meals take no time at all to make. I hope he comes out with another one soon with additional recipes.

Recipes use everyday products that you already have in your kitchen. Meals are easy to prepare for the whole family.

The food is delicious with a variety of difficulty, however, many are very easy. BUT, the number one thing about this book is that each single recipe is a whole meal - you don't have to pick and choose among different sections...main course, veggie, etc. This is my favorite cookbook and it is definitely worth checking out.

What a great book. There are great recipes with nice color pictures. There are great tips, and myth busting info, and shopping lists, and case reports. A super resource for getting it together with eating and dieting.

This is a great book on how to eat healthy, but Mr. Phillips also recognizes that we are human and not perfect. By following his recommendations on planning the day ahead of time I have completely changed my eating and work habits. I really do have more free time. I also can look forward to a 'free day' which keeps me on track. My wife and I have been following the plan for two weeks and have really enjoyed the recipes from the book. As a companion to his Body-For-Life book I am already noticing changes in my 43-year old physique.

Not everything in life is fixed by a pill, a powder, or an ab machine that you see on an infomercial. Bill Philips teaches us through this book, and Body for Life, that you can gain back your self esteem, your energy, and your body with some common sense, healthy recipes, self-discipline and hard work. Most of the recipes are good, some not so much. But the lesson is this: by changing your eating habits, eating less per meal and more often, you have the power to bring yourself out of whatever rut you find yourself in. Good luck.

Delicious, good for you food! I bought this book to help me plan my Body for Life challenge I am starting in a few days. It is AMAZING. They have a free grocery list print out that has all the ingredients you would possibly need for any of the recipes, and they are easy to find, and not incredibly expensive. The recipes are things I can actually see myself cooking, and my family enjoying. I just made the chicken enchiladas tonight, and they were super easy, and tasted delicious, and were very filling. I am excited to start my challenge, and this book will greatly help. I recommend it for any busy family looking to eat healthier.

I absolutely love this book. It is very informative and easy to read. The life instructions are realistic and managable make this life change easy and fun! The recipes are great. There isn't one I have tried that isn't delicious. The ingredients are easy and the portion sizes are perfect for my whole family! I love that there are so many yummy options. Its also nice that they have examples of real people (not the perfect looking model) that have followed this book. Definitely a great buy!

I bought this book many years ago, and the recipes are fantastic....I've made most of the recipes in that time. But...we never really followed the plan until recently when my husband decided he was tired of carrying around all his extra weight and started following the program. 65 pounds later he is doing phenomenal...and just by cooking for him I lost 22 pounds. There are no gimmicks here....just healthy eating, but the food tastes fantastic! You will NOT feel like you are on a diet. 1 day a week you are allowed a free day where you can eat whatever you want...yet we still eat the recipes in this book because they are sooo good!

My favorite cookbook for years now. I buy copies for friends and my grown children. this cookbook has easy to prepare everyday meals. Each recipe shows pictures of the foods used to make that particular meal. The recipes are very tasty and some recipes like "Dads green chili" and Moms chicken enchiladas are excellent homemade dishes that are healthy and low in calories. These breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes are a great way to eat for life!

I bought this book after reading an article about Bill P. in a fitness magazine. Included in the article was his Baked Chicken Parmigiana recipe. After trying the recipe in the magazine, I went out & bought the book! Even now, 6 years later, I still find this book useful. The recipes are practical & very healthful. Definitely a worthwhile investment.
