VOYA
While watching the raiders of the Boston Tea Party, sixteen-year-old Rachel Winslow is almost arrested by British soldiers. As she flees through a cemetery on her way home, Rachel is mistaken for the ghost of Regina Silsby, a young woman who died thirty years before. The soldier's fright gives her the idea to disguise herself as the ghost in order to warn the Sons of Liberty of the British plot to capture them. Rachel outwits the British captain who has billeted his men in her home and embarrasses him. She becomes more daring as she frees ten boys who have been impressed by the Navy and an old man who has been confined to the stocks. When her father is arrested, Rachel figures out a way to free him as well. She ends up being caught, but with the help of her grandfather and father, she escapes in the end. This gripping tale of American history keeps the reader on edge wondering if Rachel will be caught. The story is well written, with interesting characters and events from history entwined with an action-packed plot. As Christian fiction, it is not too preachy. The prayers and references to the Bible are shown as everyday parts of the characters' lives. It will appeal to those interested in history or adventure stories.
