Most people aren't crazy about this book but have to buy it because it is required- in other words, people buy this book because they have to use the format and style it discusses in order to write and submit a paper. Other than that, I don't know who else would go out of their way to buy this thing. It's thick and not thumb indexed the best. Other psychological books readers may benefit from include The Sixty-Second Motivator.
This book serves as the only true publication manual for psychological research. A 'must-have' for anyone in the field.
Very helpful in my Masters classes..
I bought this for my daughter who just received her doctorate. She uses it as a guide.
I purchased this book because it was mandatory. I found the book to be informative and an excellent source for citing and referencing. It needs to clarify the section on citing internet sources especially pages that are in a site from another source. I referred to it often when referencing and writing a further reading bibliography.
Use this book if you do a lot of academic writing (i.e. submit a lot of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals). It's basically a big standard used in the industry and is the style manual of choice used by many professionals who do a lot of writing about research. Book includes things such as the latest guidelines for submitting papers electronically, guidance on grammar, the mechanics of writing, and lots of details such as how to use hyphens, dashes- well, you get the idea. Basically a very popular reference book used by professors and students, readers will also appreciate its thumb-indexing on the ends of the pages for quickly finding selected topics.
This was the only APA book offered at my college bookstore, so I purchased it. It is OK for the student who needs to use APA format. It does give examples. It tends to be hard to read and in a format that isn't what I thought it would be. I'm still looking for the perfect APA book.
This manual was used in reference to writing papers for an online education class. The APA style of writing is a way of organizing and writing papers, manuscripts, and journals in the medical and education fields. This manual was helpful in learning the different styles of organizIng papers and how to publish references and bibiographies.
Although used by my university, the manual is not user friendly. Its samples and instructions can easily go over one's head.
As someone making the transition from writing academic papers to writing about the psychology of grief for a wider and more general audience, I am immensely grateful for the PUBLICATION MANUAL OF THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION. By the way, for a very interesting case study and exploration of grief I cannot recommend highly enough IN THE GHOST COUNTRY by Peter Hillary and John Elder. Beautifully written, innovative and very different.
Are you an idiot, Chili-D? This book isn't about psychology; this book is about how to write and publish correctly. Anyways...the book is thorough and a must-have if you're serious about your papers, or if you want your book to be as correct as possible. Despite it thoroughness however, it's not an easy read. Only for those who are serious about what they do.
Readings are comprehensive to all general readers
This manual was perfect for helping me start my own business. It was simple and easy to use.
