Author Biography: John Oliver Killens was born in 1916. Killens grew up listening to his great- grandmother's tales of slavery. While serving in the Pacific during WWII, he decided to become a writer. He published six novels, and his three plays were all produced in NYC. Fellowship from NEA, award from NAACP, member of Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
