About the Author

Suzanne Clothier has worked professionally with animals since 1977. She is well respected for her Relationship Centered Approach to training, as well as her many innovative contributions to the dog training world.

She travels extensively in the US and internationally teaching workshops on a wide range of topics including her innovative RCT techniques, her behavior assessment tools CARAT and RAT, and the Enriched Puppy program.?

A consultant to several service dog organizations, she has also taught for groups as varied as Wolf Park, Alaskan Dog Mushers, and Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the University of Minnesota’s Nature Based Therapeutics “Speak!” conference, and as keynote speaker for many national breed club conferences.

?Collaborating with Dr. Kirby Wycoff, Suzanne is the co-creator of The Reflected Relationship, a new model for animal assisted therapies and interventions placing goodness of fit and respect for the animals as central to any humane, ethical engagement of animals to benefit humans.?

Her book, Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening Our Relationships With Dogs has received wide spread praise from every corner of the dog world, including twice being included in the Wall Street Journal's list of Top 5 Dog Books. An award winning author of videos, books, booklets and numerous articles, Suzanne has written articles for the AKC Gazette, Dog Fancy, Dogs In Canada, Off Lead, Clean Run, Wolf Clan and breed magazines and newsletters around the world.

Since 1994, her website has offered a wealth of information through her free articles, and now her YouTube channel offers free videos as well.?

She served as a committee member for the AKC’s Agility Advisory Board, and as a committee member of the American Humane Association’s Task Force for the Development of Humane Standards in Dog Training.?

Suzanne lives on a working farm in upstate New York with husband John Rice, and their considerable animal family of dogs, cats, parrots, tortoises, horses, donkeys, Scottish Highland cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys.

A long time breeder of German Shepherds, dogs from her Hawks Hunt line have been successful in many fields – agility, obedience, tracking, herding, Rally, Search & Rescue, therapy work, guide work, nose work and of course, as beloved family companions.
