Overview

Commercial "pop-rappers" like England's Betty Boo get little respect from rap's hardcore, which tends to be suspicious of any type of success in the pop or dance-music markets. Clever and witty, the dance-oriented Boomania underscores the fact that not all pop-rappers are created equal -- "Doin' the Do," "Hey DJ (I Can't Dance to the Music You're Playing)," and other melodic, escapist club hits have a lot more bite and substance than the music of Vanilla Ice and Icy Blu.
