Whether by dint of technology, tenacity, or talent, the world's pop stars are ready to take on America's musical monopoly, and Paulina Rubio follows Colombia's Shakira to the vanguard with her long-overdue bilingual debut, Border Girl. Mexico's Queen of All Media, Rubio has conquered music, TV, and movies, clawing her way through her homeland's pop-star factory system from a tender age to emerge a multiplatinum commodity. That this sexpot's more than ready for across-the-border marketing is obvious from Border Girl, which not only includes English versions of two hits from her previous Spanish-language album, Paulina, but also five Spanish tracks ready for Latin radio. The best, "Don't Say Goodbye"/"Si Tu Te Vas" and "The One You Love"/"Todo Mi Amor," contrast her husky, accented vocals with thunderous pop arrangements that mix and match hip-hop beats, guitar rock, and cascades of multitracked vocals -- imagine Britney Spears after a couple years behind a bar in Tijuana. Noted for hi-energy dance pop, Rubio delivers plenty of it on the brassy "Baila Casanova" (a Latin-pop rumba in the Ricky Martin mode), "Fire (Sexy Dance)," and her aerobicized version of KISS's 1979 disco hit "I Was Made for Loving You." But Rubio's content to play the field: "Stereo" offers a stark, Janet-styled detour into contemporary R&B, and "The Last Goodbye" translates a popular Mexican ranchera into low-rider hip-pop. The marquee songs don't come much more solid -- the unfocused mid-tempo title track by Richard Marx is an exception -- and with her mix of sex appeal and showbiz stamina, it's not hard to imagine this Border Girl moving to the northernmost reaches of the charts.

Paulina is back! I have been really looking forward to the release of this album, and I bought on the 18th! I completely love the entire album. It's one of those rare albums that you can listen to all of it's tracks without skipping one because it sucks or it's boring. Without a doubt, this may possibly be the album of the year! I really can't say which ones are my favorites, because I like all of the tracks, it's really hard to pick a favorite song! If you haven't bought it yet, you should, because you don't know what you're missing!
WOW... this CD is amazing! Paulina Rubio did a fantastic job crossing over. All the tracks on this album, bring out a side of you that tells you... YOU'RE ALIVE! Gosh... dont hesitate on buying it... ITS WORTH IT!!!!
After being know for 20 years on the Spanish world as the most energetic, professional, carismatic and powerful pop singer, Paulina now comes to conquer the entire world with English language tracks. This CD has everything, dance, pop, spanish flavor, electric and hip-hop sounds. One of the BEST CD so far this year.
I was sooooooooooo excited when I found out that Paulina Rubio was making and english language album. This CD is amazing. Pauling puts so much energy and excitement into her albums which make them all great!! I gave the CD 5 stars because I couldn't put 10. My favorite song by her is ''Y Yo Sigo Aqui'' and its on the album in english!! And now I love the song even more!! Buy this CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the songs on this album are great. They are upbeat and get you dancing all through the house. This is the first that I have heard of her and will definitely look into purchasing her previous albums. I highly recommend this album.
This is the first time I've heard of her! But i have to say she's very good , all her songs just make you want to get up and dance!!I loved her whole cd except #6, 7, and 8. She is defentily star quality....
Um, is it just me, or does this CD make you go all hot and tingly? I haven't bought it yet, but glory, I'd say it's worth my money just from what I've heard! I loved Paulina's ''Don't say Goodbye'' which plays on radio stations like Kiss 96, but to me, the spanish version sounds even more...enticing. Hot, hot, HOT CD, especially the song ''Fire.'' I really hope with all my heart that they put that one on the radio.
EL DISCO BORDER GIRL ESTA SUPER BIEN ME ENCANTA... RECOMIENDO ESTE DISCO A TODOS ES UN ALBUM QUE NO SE PUEDEN PERDER ES BUENISIMO!
Paulina Rubio is back with ''Border Girl'', but I think her album ''Paulina'' was better. This album includes five old songs which she sang in English. Or was it Chinese? I think Paulina Rubio needed a lot more practice in her English. But no, she would have died if Thalia (the #1 pop singer) would have done her crossover before her. If you buy this album you will get tired of listening to it fast. Just wait until ''The One You Love'', her second single comes out. You're going to want to break the speakers when you hear it. It's boring. You can buy this album if you only like to listen to the music because you are not going to understand a word she's saying in English.
Her cd is one of my favorites.. I esp like the lyrics of the songs.. and im glad she did an english ranchera wich makes her pround of her mexican music.. I lover her alot and i wish the best luck ever..
heard 3 tracks from this album while browsing in a small record store in Buenos Aires, had to buy the album ! given the content of the album and present exchange rate , this must be my best music purchase EVER !!
unlike thalia...who USED to be the #1 pop singer..Paulina (whom I didn't like b4) has surprised the whole world...her crossover album has taken the whole US buy surprise.."Don't Say Goobye" provides a laidback dance song that you can either dance or just tap your feet to the beat..the second single "The One You Love" is one of the BEST (note how stupid of rudy 2 say it's boring) it kinda takes on the whole HS crush..and the sound it feels like as if you'ved heard it b4..then the very original "The Last Goobye" shows her PROUD of her mexican roots (unlike thalia who kisses @ss to cuban artists.. the Estefans)...her infectious "Casanova" is filled rich w/ latin beats and chords..that would make u just get up and dance, "undeniable" a classic sexy ballad, and the best track in my opinion.."Fire (Sexy Dance) remixed by Hex Hector one of the most catchy dance songs done in along time.think of those "ahhs" she gives you can compare it as catchy as the "lidadi" on amber's sexual(li da di)..yes it's that filled w/ sexuality...Thalia after seeing such results tried the same w/ having hex hector remixing her single "the mexican" which sounds more like "the cuban/Spaniard" (nothing mexican there) and the remix and delivery was WEAK.. Overall both artists are good, but Paulina is MUCH STRONGER now..just a fact..and her accent is sexy..don't hate on her just cuz ur idol thalia is not what she used to be anymore....
This is one of Paulina Rubio best CD yet!!!!! It is a great album! It has her smach hits, translated in english, it is a great CD! I recommend it to all of you because I CAN'T GET ENOUGH of it.
this it's the only cd, that i'm able to listen again and again, and enjoy it every time i play it.......
I LOVE this cd!! i listen to it almost every day! It's very catchy, and all of the songs are slightly different, so you don't get tired of hearing the same thing. Her voice is also somewhat different from your average pop star, which gives this album edge! Overall, AWESOME!
Well, i actually reviewed this album just a couple of months after it was released. but i want to re-review it from my point of view now that many things have happened in Paulina's career. Well it's already June of 2004. 2 years after this album was released. the first time i listened to this album i was totally disappointed for all the technology and electronic work and because i could not understand Paulina's english very well. Paulina Rubio is recently promoting her most recent spanish album "Paulatina". I didnt buy that album but one of my friend's did and i listened to it. I must say that Paulatina is as bad as this one. Paulina Rubio needs to learn that working with great producers doesn't mean that the album will turn out great. For example, Paulatina is a very immature album. I am very glad that i didnt fell to buy Paulina's recent album. Her voice worsened. I only hope that Paulina continues singing in Spanish. Please Paulina, don't ridiculize the name of Mexico. Another thing i recently noticed is that there's a review which is more like a response to my last review. I'm ok with that. But I'm not a Thalia-freak. I just like her music and I also think that she's been more successful than Paulina. I mean, let's go back to the year 1995, for example. During that year, Thalia was internationally known and she was triumphing with her "En Extasis" album as well as with her soap operas, while Paulina was doing nothing and some people thought she was "a singer with no future". It wasn't until 2000 that Paulina became internationally known and started to succeed, but it was only with her Paulina album. With this BORDER GIRL album, she had no English hits, and she only had like 2 spanish hits, which were not "big hits". I definitely dont recommend BORDER GIRL or PAULATINA, but i highly recommend PAULINA though. I think that only PAULINA fans are willing to buy her music. I've hears lots of rumors o whether Paulina will release a second english album or not. For example, I've heard that paulina said in an interview that she has decided to continue recording in Spanish only, but i've also heard that Paulina will probably release a second english album in 2006. Who knows? One thing I know for sure is that Thalia will start recording her second english album after her high voltage tour. I wonder if Thalia and Paulina will coincide in their english album release dates again (as it happened with Thalia's GREATEST HITS and Paulina's PAULATINA). But i doubt it. It's not sure that Paulina will release a second english album and if she does, she will probably start recording it next year or so since she;s recently promoting PAULATINA.
I dont understand why some people dislike Paulina Rubio's Music. This crossover album may not have had a Large Hit in the American Music Industry, but this album is Hot HOTT HOTT!!! Paulina Goes back to her roots by infusing her music with Instruments that are typically used for mariachi bands with the upbeat tempo of Pop Music, which is truilly unique and catchy. Paulina's songs in English are quite sexxy if you ask me. her somewhat thick accent (like "Casanova" and The one you love" )makes her songs even more appealing. Even this album wasnt big in America, it was a huge smash in latin America. Upbeat, Unique and Trully Sexxy!!!
