Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Summer Whiting
Boris is without a home. Typically this feisty cat does not mind; on this particular day, however, he finds himself grouchy and tired and is in desperate need of a good place to rest. He discovers an inviting cardboard box and curls up for a quick cat nap. Unbeknownst to him, the box is en route to Lady Snootlethorpe. She is quite unimpressed with the cat. In her attempt to send him back, Boris comes into contact with many personalities, including an alien in outer space. Boris has had enough. Just as he decides it is time to escape, the box is finally opened by the most perfect person. He has at last found a sublime place to nap. The unconventional typeset will draw your eyes across the pages. This book is filled with zany illustrations. Quirky and amusing, it will prove to be an enjoyable read for both youngsters and adults. PreS-Gr 1- Boris is a cat without a home. Mostly, he is content, but once in a while he wishes for a nice soft spot for a catnap. One day he finds a perfect cardboard box and makes himself comfortable. Unfortunately, the box is being sent to Lady Snootlethorpe, who is waiting for a teapot, not a cat. When she sees Boris, she sends him on, and the box ends up at the North Pole and many other places. Each time, no one wants a small hungry cat in need of a cozy place to sleep. Finally, Boris gets lucky. He is sent to a pleasantly surprised Grandma Flapjack, who isn't expecting a delivery but who has always wanted a cat, and he settles down for a little nap on "the world's most comfy pillow." The fun illustrations spill over the pages in imaginative and colorful collages of all sorts of materials and designs, creating a feast for the eyes. Children will love following Boris's adventures and picking out all the details of his trips.-Judith Constantinides, formerly at East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, LA

Kirkus Reviews
A homeless kitty seeking a catnap takes some unexpected side trips before settling down. Sometimes Boris would do anything for a place to snuggle for a long nap. When he finds an empty cardboard box, it seems the perfect snooze site so he dozes off. Suddenly Boris is sealed in the box, addressed, stamped and delivered to Lady Snootlethorpe, who's shocked to find a cat instead of the teapot she ordered. Next, the box arrives at the North Pole where Mr. Marshmallow is disappointed to find a "silly cat" instead of the fish he ordered. When the box is shipped into outer space, Mister Gobbledeegook is angry to discover Boris instead of a remote-controlled space butterfly. All Boris wants is some peace and quiet, so when the box is delivered to Grandma Flapjack, Boris jumps out and lands on her comfy pillow where he can finally settle for his catnap. The crazy story line is magnified by zany mixed-media illustrations tracking the wacky feline-in-the-box and his surreal journey. An abundance of visual activity adds to the overall confusion and challenge of following Boris. (Picture book. 3-7)
