Petra alum/guitar whiz Pete Orta is already something of a Christian music veteran, having logged a few years with that Christian rock supergroup, as well as touring with such big names as Jaci Velasquez and Plus One. Born Again is a well-crafted rock album that, at times, is reminiscent of Irish rockers such as U2 or Hothouse Flowers. Pete Orta is at his best when he's noodling around with some experimental musical touches, as he does on title track, "Born Again." This is a hard-nosed affair, incorporating some interesting bits of electronica behind soaring minor-key strings that hint at the mysterious transformations that come with the song's subject matter. Less experimental, though no less effective, is a straightforward pop ballad like "Something New." While Orta does get a little carried away with himself on the song "Beautiful," now that he's been born again as a solo artist, one can expect some interesting music indeed.
