About the Author

Born and raised in The Hague, Holland during the tumultuous period of World War II, FRANK J. TYSEN is a Fulbright Scholar, Guggenheim Fellow, and extensive world traveler. A former professor at USC’s School of Urban and Regional Planning, he has frequently found himself working for positive change as both an environmental activist.
After receiving a BA from Claremont Men’s College––where he graduated magna cum laude,––an MA and MPA from Princeton University he was then appointed by Ronald Reagan to the Environmental Study Council. His professional life began, however, when he accepted a position as Research Assistant with the Metropolitan Planning Organization in Calcutta, India. He is also the recipient of the Kaufmann International Design Award. Today, he splits his time between his homes in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, CA.
