Barnes & Noble - EJ Johnson
Dubbed classical music's answer to the Spice Girls, comely crossover string quartet Bond arrive on the American musical scene with their controversial debut album. They have already created a stir overseas: After Born hit No. 2 on the British classical chart, the committee for classical music at the Chart Information Network, which assembles the list, had a listen and summarily re-designated it a pop album, removing Born from their listing. The Bond girls cried foul, but the succès de scandale has only made them a huge concert draw. Beyond their sultry looks, Bond's appeal lies in their music, which defies easy description. It is classically influenced -- they are a string quartet, and many of the melodies they play are classically derived. But don't expect standard classical fare: Pulsing dance beats, new age ambient noises, and voice-overs are all part of the game here, too. While many classical music listeners may agree with Bond's British critics, those who cotton to the crossover styles of Sarah Brightman and Vanessa Mae will enjoy Bond's music for what it is: a genre-bending, barrier-breaking, upbeat blend of pop and classical styles. Roll over, Beethoven. Bond has arrived.

    Amazing, amazing, amazing

I'm not one to normally pick up a "classical" album, but after catching bits and pieces of a video by Bond, I thought it would be worth it. I was right. This album is a definate must for all music fans. You don't have to like classical music to get into this album. The songs bend and break all the rules of typical classical music. I enjoyed every song equally. It's great!

Perfect for young music students who *think* they don't like listening to strings music!

This CD is AWESOME!!! I love playing violin, but I don't really like listening to strings music. This CD is the exception! With their electric instruments and all the things they've added to the music with computers, it gives this CD a depth and makes it more interesting than almost any other CD. It's AWESOME!!! This CD is especially perfect for young strings students because Bond plays classical music in a completely new way. The vocals on a few of the tracks take some getting used to, but don't get discouraged because of them. My personal favorite is "Duel," though I like the entire CD. I highly recommend "Born!"

    Captivating Beautiful Music

I never knew classical music could be this good!(This is actually my first classical album!) I actually dismissed them as some pop girl group! But this album is one of the greatest i have ever came across. If you dont own one then you would have missed one of the greatest and wonderful music in this world.

    Bond Rocks!

Bond's debut of Born is an excellent CD that I enjoy listening to every day. The music has so much flavor and character -- not the average string quartet. Perhaps it is not right for everyone, though people involved in musical theatre or an orchestra tend to like it.

    THE BEST

This album is the best. I wish there were more albums from bond. I play the violin and I'm really good. But not as good as bond. If anybody likes classical music and jazz this album is just right fo you. Also try Vanessa Mae. She has the same style.

    Classical Music with Spice

I am not a classical listener, but after hearing this CD and the song ''Victory'' I am switching. They are great and I enjoy listening to the music. If they tour near my home, I will go and watch them.

Great talent from a beautiful group

The girls put a new twist on the classics. It is one of those albums, where the more you listen to it the more you enjoy it. The track 'Victory' deserves the second rendition. I can hardly wait to see them live.

    All I can say is...

Wow! I love this CD! It's like everything that made me choose to play violin rolled into one! Beat, sound, attention grabbing charm... Anyone who says classical music sucks needs to listen to this!

    This album is great!

Seeing Bond for the first time could throw you off: the Spice Girl references, the skimpy clothing, etc. But their music is totally different. These girls are truly talented, even though it's not what most people would call ''classical music''. It's a great way to get younger children interested in classical music and it's fun to dance to.

    Stunning and FRESH.

I first heard a spot by them in a Raymond Weil Ad for the US tennis open. I asked my wife who are they? She did not know. I got on the computer and searched for Raymond Weil on the Internet. Their web page identified their name. Then on to their web site. The next day I found myself at the local CD shop purchasing their first album. Some of their songs go around and around in my head when trying to sleep. I cannot wait till they tour US and hopefully Los Angeles CA.

    talented ladies

when i first took a look at this cd I was thrown off by what could be interpreted as a pop look that these girls have. But I bought the cd anyway, needless to say it was far from poppy. These four girls have a beautiful talent, I love the sounds of violins and strings. Especially this new sound that they bring to the intruments, it is absolutely amazing!

Still Fresh Approach to Classical - Pop Crossover

For those who know who Vanessa Mae is and like her music, this album is for you. Its classical music instruments combine perfectly with modern synthezisers. Very well arranged and performed. However I still give it 4 stars because it is neither the first album of its kind that I know of (that one being Vanessa Mae's ''The Violin Player'') or the one showing the best mastery of the violin. Bond got beat by Vanessa on those two counts yet they may win in the end for their appeal to the general public.
