Here, Robinson (not a professional historian) takes a fresh look at the Peasant's Revolt of 1381 in England and emerges with something really new. It had been thought that this revolt against feudal landlords and royalty was a spontaneous one led by ad hoc people. Robinson shows, in what seems to be a convincing way, that far from being spontaneous, the revolt was a well-planned and highly organized attempt on the part of remnants of the Knights Templar (disbanded by the Pope 65 years earlier) to get retribution against the Knights Hospitaller.     Knights Templar and Freemasonry

    This book was recommended to me by a Mason. It was his opinion that it gave a fairly realistic viewpoint of the history of Freemasonry. I bought the book and read it prior to my induction into Masonry.

    The book is historical in nature. It traces the evolution of the Knights Templar through the Crusades and ultimately their demise under King Phillip of France. When the Knights Templar were forced into hiding, many fled mainland Europe for England and Scotland. Herein the author tries to draw a parallel between their disbanding and the underground Freemasonry movement which existed at that time.

    The second half of the book discusses some of the symbolism and rituals that comprise Freemasonry today.

    I personally found the book interesting but quite difficult to read.

    If you are new to masonary or want to know about it, this is the closest to the reality of masonary's origins,history and activities. Though no one knows for sure, Steve's investigaton in to masonary gives a more realistic view.

    I found the invistigative writing following the language of the words used in masonary very interesting in leading the writer in his surch of meanings. This is a reality check in masonary and clears up alot of misunderstandings about the symbols,teachings and secrets.

    I would recomend this as an intoduction to masonary.
