Publishers Weekly
Best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon (The Dark-Hunter novels) restores three out-of-print titles in the series the League Novels, creating a more pronounced interconnected universe between the books. The first in the trilogy offers new readers an introduction to her Ichidian Universe, while restoring parts from the original manuscript and other rewritten material for the more familiar fan. Princess Kiara Zamir in repulsed by those who perpetuate violence like the brutal attacks on her family. Nykyrian Quiakides, a hybrid human and Andarion (a predatory alien race), is a former assassin for The League, who now leads a group of vigilantes known as The Sentella. Ironically, Nykyrian's team finds themselves serving as protectors of Kiara against kidnappers and assassins, giving Kiara and Nykyrian, two broken individuals, a chance at romance-if they can survive. The story is fast-paced, with graphic violence and sex in almost equal amounts. Kenyon thrives when developing the relationship between the two protagonists, putting the focus on relationships rather than world-building, which may disappoint some readers.

    I was skeptical

I am a huge fan of the Dark Hunter novels and so when I saw this on the shelf I thought "hell, it's sherrilyn...can't be bad." But I read the back when I got home and just wasn't feeling it. It sat on my baby bookshelf for about 2 weeks. All I can say is that I was an idiot. At this point in time if someone asked me what I liked more the Leauge or the Hunters...I would lean more toward the League. It's just freaking insane how she does it, the details, the emotions, the plot (Which is great throughout all 3 of the novels...I read the other 2 in a day.) So if your a fan of the her writing do it...and don't let it sit because your afraid a bad series would ruin your favorite author...because this one is fabulous. :)

    LOVED IT

I love this author. I don't think I have read anything from Ms. Kenyon/Ms. McKinley that I did not like. Will always read her material. Loved the book, loved the creative universe that was created. Loved the hero especially when he stated that his bones ached every morning and tired easily. The heroine had a bad attitude at first, but then she started to grow on me. Loved the characters and their supporting parties. Also recommened the Dark-Hunter, Were-Hunter, and Dream Hunter series.

    Another great series...

This was a great book. I was concerned about starting a new Kenyon series but in no time I was hooked. As always Kenyon's writing is visually stimulating her creative writing is capturing. The charactors are charming. I was so glad that I purchased all three books at once and was only sad when there was no fourth for me to move on to. I loved it...

    Kenyon continues to deliver.

Kenyon books seem to fall within the category of "can't put down until I finish it". I have been an avid fan for a long time and have purchased every book of hers that I can get my hands on. I tried to purchase this series of books in their original publications but they were out of print. Frankly, I'm glad. Once she had completed her re-write, it was a done deal and all three books were ordered in advance. She was right, the characters came to life stronger than before. It was worth waiting for. The male leads in the first two books shared a history a little too close to Acheron but not enough to blemish the completed story. For anyone who follows the genre, her books are a must read. Wild, bold, troubled and irristible male leads who seem to find females who blend into the perfect mate as well as being as formidable as the men, no matter the circumstances, allow the readers to lose themselves in not only the love but the conflicts. Have read all three in the League series and lust for more. There are too many interesting and needful characters to be left hanging in mid-space. Look forward to the next one.

    contains spoilers...

First of all I love this author and yes this was a good book, HOWEVER, now that I've said that I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Nykyrian was strangely like Acheron hmmmm. All the way down to the illagitamate daughter he didn't know about. Which that part annoyed me the most and made me want to put the book down entirely. Now normally its not a big deal to me, but why did she even HAVE to throw that in there? There was no place for it and it wasn't even NEEDED! I thought the whole story flip flopped alot oh i love her but she could never love me and then oh he doesn't love me he left me, but I'll love him forever. The two characters were never on the same page, but both blatantly liked each other with a few minor drawbacks. I don't know maybe it's just me. I loved the concept of the whole world, but I think it could have been a little better. I'll still get the next book in hopes it will be redeeming.

    Disappointing!

I thought I had read normally everything Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor has published. I felt that this book was clearly her first attempt at writing (as she stated) and does not reflect the talent that she has evolved to. Her characters are normally very witty, in a suitably sarcastic way, but in this book they felt stilted and lacking chemistry. Normally I can't put one of her books down. With this book, I found it hard to keep on reading. The writing seemed improved in the last quarter of the book making it more enjoyable but overall I was very disappointed in the quality.

It was a fun book to read and I enjoyed it enough for me to continue and read all the other books from this series. however it was a very typical and predictable story. but I found the storyline very entertaining and enjoyedhow the author continued with the rest if the series. all the minor charactes in the first book eventually gets to be the main character through each book of the series. so there really isnt just one or two character that the series is consistently revolves around therefore it makes it a really fun book to read as well as the reader feels a great connection to every single characte which is the whole cast of the series. So I really enjoyed it

    Lovely Reading

Such a wonderful novel. It's so heartbreaking, but the incessant bantering of the Sentella's members to one another counter-balance the sadness of Nykyrian's story. My heart bled for him, and I cried a river. He was a First Command Assassin for an organization called The League. Everyone feared him for his ability to kill and fierceness. He left the organization when he reneged a contract for not killing his target, and so a bounty was set on him. No one dared to turn him in though for he was so lethal. The focal point of this book was the abusive life of Nykyrian while growing up, and how his life changed when he fell in love with the Princess of Gouran Planet. Also, the author illustrated hypocrisy and importance of friendship.

This is my first experience with this author. Now I understand why people absolutely rave about her books. I adore how this book was written from beginning to end. I loved how the author explored the main characters past with timely flashbacks or thoughts that led to flashbacks. Here are my thoughts:

Nykyrian Quiakides is a top ranking assassin whose heritage as Hybrid Andarion lead to him never showing his emotions at any cost. He is owned by body and soul to The League yet his last assignment leaves him utterly cold and knowing something must change period because no one ever really leaves The League alive right? Nine years later Kiara Zamir has been taken hostage before and she's fighting tooth and nail to escape this unending nightmare. She's just wants to dance or so she thought. She's rescued by Nemesis and returned to her father's care. She doesn't know that she's become another target and it's up to Nykyrian and company to protect. Kiara is strangely attracted to Nykyrian and the feeling is entirely mutual. Nykyrian has watched Kiara from afar for so long he doesn't know what to do when he's in her constant presence. Kiara has way of looking at things and people that all but elimates personal barriers. Can Nykyrian heal from his past? What does Kiara see? Who wants Kiara died? Can Kiara admit her feelings? Your answers await you in Born of Night.

I really liked this, wasn't sure at first being so used to the Dark Hunter series and characters. Once I got into it thou I really fell for Nykyrian, who reminds me a lot of Ash, and enjoyed the supporting cast as well. I will definitly read the rest in the series. Kenyon is a talented story teller and has a way of creating people and universes you fall hard for and can't wait to devour every word about. Excellent book, can't wait to read more.
