Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 2-4Garth and the class gerbil, Weebie, are back. Readers of the previous titles will know that the two have been able to communicate since Weebie bit Garth. In this latest adventure, the intrepid duo work together to rescue Ding Dong, a runaway pet bunny, from rude rabbits and hungry owls. The result is an entertaining, quick read with one or two gentle character-building hints added in. Fans of the series are sure to enjoy this entry, but it can stand alone. Best for beginning readers who are gaining confidence and are ready for chapter books.Jody McCoy, Lakehill Preparatory School, Dallas, TX
Kirkus Reviews
Born To Be Wild (PLB paper; Mar. 31, 1997; 60 pp.; PLB 0-06-027338-0; paper 0-06-442033-7): In the third installment of The Weebie Zone series (Gerbilitis, 1996, not reviewed, etc.), Garth still has the ability—thanks to a bite from his gerbil, Weebie—to communicate with animals. Garth and his family are on vacation in Maine, where he helps a tame rabbit that has run away from its overly affectionate owner. Spinner and Weiss don't talk down to the audience, and they include plenty of comic touches in their enjoyable tale.

Meet the Author

Margaret Landon first became interested in Anna Leonowens' story, when a friend recommended to her The English Governess at the Siamese Court which was published in 1870. Fascinated with the story and its potential, she contacted one of Anna's grandchildren, and in 1941 began to seriously research writing an updated (and vastly more entertaining) version of the book. Anna and the King is the product of her efforts.

This is Mike Gutch's first children's book other than his unpublished "book" he wrote in third grade about New York State, which coincidentally is where he resides, in the town of Pelham, just outside of New York City. Mike lives with his wife and four children. When he's not making peanut butter and honey sandwiches for them or working for the Man, he's enjoying the great outdoors. If you'd like to send him a note on the book or advice on how to get anything unstuck, you can email him at mikestuckgutch@gmail.com.

Steve Bjorkman has illustrated more than seventy books for children, including the New York Times bestselling Dirt on My Shirt by Jeff Foxworthy, Emily's Everyday Manners by Peggy Post and Cindy Post Senning, I Hate English! by Ellen Levine, and Safari Park by Stuart J. Murphy. He also creates greeting cards with his brother, Carl, and together they have sold millions through Recycled Paper Greetings. Steve lives with his wife and three children in Irvine, California.
