Overview

The inspirational story of Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia—a giant talent in a small package—who defied his critics to become one of the greatest players in the game today.

Dustin Pedroia, at five feet seven inches and 170 pounds, is not the biggest, the strongest, or the fastest player in the game of baseball, but in just two years of major-league play he was named Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and helped the Boston Red Sox win a World Championship. At a time when steroid scandals dominate media coverage of America’s beloved pastime, Pedroia has proven to the world that a good baseball player is more than size and statistics. His success comes from the heart.

In Born to Play, Pedroia shares the story of his difficult and uplifting journey to prove himself at every turn. More than anything, his love of the game and desire to win, not just for himself but for his teammates, defines Pedroia as an athlete—but his dedication, his perseverance, and of course, his monster swing have made him a beloved new symbol of baseball and offer hope for the future of America’s favorite game.

I read Dustin Pedroia Born to Play. This book talked day one when he first started playing baseball to professional and still continuing to this day. Since day one Dustin has always have been judged, earthier by his height or strength. He used it as fuel to get him through the tuff times and show all of the people that he isn’t small and that he can play baseball. The credits started in high school. Dustin high school coach didn’t play him because he thought he was too weak and too tiny. So Dustin sat for a few games and when the second baseman got hurt the coach had to put Dustin in the game. He took advantage of that opportunity that he got and went out and showed what he is capable of. It only took one game to show what you can do, ever since that Dustin Pedroia led the team in average and hits. His sophomore year in high school, that’s when Dustin noticed that he can be really good at this game so he had to work every day. Dustin had so much fight to get to the pros that no one could tell him no! My favorite part of the book is when the Boston Red Sox selected Dustin Pedroia in the draft. There was so much emotions because everything that he has been through and he made it to the big leagues, its just inspirational. I recommend this book to everyone not just baseball players but everyone who has been told no about your dreams.

The autobiography Born To Play by Dustin Pedroia is about how Dustin made his way to the major leagues. I enjoyed this book because it shows how determined Dustin was to make it. Also, I liked how he talked about his relationship with other famous baseball players. I would recommend this book to anybody. It is a great read that makes you want to root for Dustin Pedroia.

I really enjoyed this book. It was an inspiration to me and it was entertaining. It made me want to go outside and play baseball again. You don't have to be a sports fan to read this book either.  Dustin's life was worth writing about and now, it's worth reading about.
