Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
The baby who was born with a beard tells his story about his family in Minnesota. Each chapter is about some event in the lives of the mother, father, and sister. The baby describes all this from his point of view while speculating and commenting on the events. The story takes place when television was just coming out, so the situations are reflective of that era. One chapter tells about his dad working out, and another shows what happens when his mother drives. No one is upset about the baby having a beard and things go as usual. The characters are all endearing and the episodes are warmhearted and amusing. When the baby finally talks at the end of the book, he says several sentences and of course everyone is amazed. The story is lighthearted and nostalgic and portrays a pleasant view of a family during that time. Included are some cute illustrations of the bearded baby. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
