All Music Guide - Vik Iyengar
Boston is one of the best-selling albums of all time, and deservedly so. Because of the rise of disco and punk, FM rock radio seemed all but dead until the rise of acts like Boston, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen. Nearly every song on Boston's debut album could still be heard on classic rock radio decades later due to the strong vocals of Brad Delp and unique guitar sound of Tom Scholz. Tom Scholz, who wrote most of the songs, was a studio wizard and used self-designed equipment such as 12-track recording devices to come up with an anthemic "arena rock" sound before the term was even coined. The sound was hard rock, but the layered melodies and harmonics reveal the work of a master craftsman. While much has been written about the sound of the album, the lyrics are often overlooked. There are songs about their rise from a bar band "Rock and Roll Band" as well as fond remembrances of summers gone by "More Than a Feeling". Boston is essential for any fan of classic rock, and the album marks the re-emergence of the genre in the 1970s.

Actually, 50 stars is more appropriate

Boston, in eight not-so-short tracks, establishes themselves here as one of the greatest AOR bands of all time. They're loud but not unnecessarily; they're extravagant but not bombastic. These are eight wonderfully written songs played by eight talented musicians who know how to use a recording studio (like ELP, except better). It's hard to imagine that all the vocals on this disk were sung by one man becuase they are so tight and the harmonies are so close. Get this album. You won't regret it.

    One of the very best

From the first few seconds of listening to &quot More Than A Feeling&quot for the first time thirty years ago, I knew this album would become one of my all-time favorites. Even today I can still listen to the entire album and not tire of it. Although I will say that, after Brad Delp's tragic suicide, the lyrics to &quot Hitch A Ride&quot really send a chill through me.

    A Rock and Roll Legend

In my opinion, this is the greatest album ever produced by an American rock band.

    It's been a long time....

This is the definitive Boston album, also their first. It was and is THE BEST arena rock album. My dad got this for me when I was 15 and I have not grown tired of it yet.

    Houston, we have lift off..

Or would that be Boston..After seeing this band live in Colorado in 1977, you could not pry any of their albums from my hands..Great rock vocals, tightest guitar sounds available, thunderous rhythm section along with classic lyrics and, yes, folks, there you have it..the making of a true blue American rock Icon.

    Any Better...

Short and to the point if BOSTON had come together in the 60's the BRITISH invasion bands would have had even more then each other to compeate with....BOSTON could have kicked some BRITISH butts all the way back to England.
