Overview

“I saw the meaning of the life written in my kibble.
But then I ate the message.”

Ever wonder what your dog is really thinking? And what would he say if he had a Twitter account of his own?

Boswell Speaks, a hilarious, illustrated novel in four short volumes by the award-winning author, Richard Grossman, reveals the inner thoughts and desires of man's best friend.

Based on the popular Twitter feed of Grossman’s real-life Australian Terrier pal (@BoswellSpeaks), the eBook series follows the fun-loving Boswell and his magical friend, StuffyToy, on a mission to discover the secret meaning of the universe in the pattern of the kibble in his bowl.

As Volume 1 opens, Boswell finds himself unable to control his appetite and repeatedly wolfs down his kibble before he can receive the inspirational messages that are being served up at mealtime. Adding to his frustration is his failure to have his way with the alluring Lulu, a neighbor’s white Standard Poodle, who won’t give him the time of day.

In between meals and naps, Boswell and Stuffy report on the antics of the other colorful characters in the neighborhood, leading the pup and his chew-toy sidekick to tweet about things far beyond the confines of their kitchen, including Lady Gaga, Fox News, lap-band surgery, and the merits of financial analyst Jim Cramer’s stock predictions. Their surprising conversations provide raucous commentary on current events, politics, institutions, mores, and personalities.

Meet the Author

Richard Grossman, the writer tasked with recording Boswell’s conversations and sharing them with the world, is the author of the critically acclaimed book of poetry, The Animals, which was recently issued in a new revised edition. For the past two decades he has been concentrating on a trilogy of novels, entitled American Letters. Its first two volumes, The Alphabet Man, describing hell (winner of the Illinois State University/Fiction Collective Two National Fiction Competition), and The Book of Lazarus, on purgatory, were published by FC2 (1993; 1997). The trilogy’s final installment, The Interstate Bingo, describing heaven, is forthcoming in 2014. The trilogy is among the 39 elements in Breeze Avenue, a 3,000,000-page book conceived as a vast literary analog of cosmic consciousness, to be launched online in its comprehensive digital form in 2015. Grossman’s poetry has appeared in over a hundred publications, including the Southern, Paris, North American, Chicago, and Hudson reviews. Grossman, his wife, and Boswell (AKC Champion Wild West’s Tale Teller), currently live in Los Angeles.

    WOOF! A BARKING GOOD BOOK!

Just a marvelous read for a dog lover like me! Boswell just confirms what I always suspected about my own dog: he has deep thoughts and a great sense of humor. Arf!
