    Great for SBA certificate studentss!

This is a great book for all students who are thinking of enrolling in the Society Botanical Illustration certificate course. It is one of the required textbooks. Really makes you aware of what you are in for and what the SBA is looking for in the sketchbook that is turned in at the end of the 27 months. Thanks for sharing Mary Ann

Beautiful, but not the "how to" book I was hoping for.

This book is exactly what it says it is: Mary Ann Scott's portfolio. The images are beautiful and I was delighted that she took the time to specify her color mixtures. And I also learned what to look for in a botanical painting based on Margaret Stevens' critiques which I had very mixed emotions about. It's not like I needed another level of criticism inside my own head; but better to know than not know I suppose. My only real complaint is that I really didn't get the "how to" information for creating these lovely works of art that I was hoping for. Aside from that, I would recommend it to more advanced artists. To those of us still struggling to overcome our fear of failure, it's very much a mixed bag.
