PreS-K-The striking cover illustration shows a young boy marching proudly, with arms swinging and legs prancing in oversize red rain boots trimmed with large yellow diamonds. Ceremoniously perched on his head is a trifold newspaper hat. The title page shows a gift box decorated in the red and yellow design of the boots. Jan opens the box and, with a huge grin, pulls out the boots, proudly displaying one on each arm, sharing everything his new boots can do. They march in a field with horses, kick a soccer ball, climb a staircase and jump off, and splash and walk in water. The simple watercolor illustrations convey lots of movement, which is very appropriate for the audience. There are farm animals and stuffed animals, all with their basic features emphasized-the beak of a hen and chicken and their three-clawed feet, a rabbit with two long ears and a pink nose, an elephant with a long trunk, and giraffe with a long neck. A delightful read-aloud.
