Romero has always ignored Lily's
Liliana Scuderi has been in love with Romero from the moment she first saw him. After her sisters were married off for tactical reasons, she hopes she might be allowed to choose a husband for herself, but when her father promises her to a man more than twice her age that hope is crushed. No begging can make him change his mind.
Romero has always ignored Lily's flirting. Her age and status made her off-limits but even someone as dutiful as him has only so much control. Wanting her when she's supposed to marry another man could mean war between New York and the Chicago Outfit, and Romero has always put the Cosa Nostra first.
Lily suspects her sisters and Romero would risk everything for her, but is her happiness worth that much? Is love worth a war between the Cosa Nostra and the Outfit?

Very good! Wish it was longer
We’ve watched Liliana grow up since the start of this series, and personally, I couldn’t wait for this story to come out. I have loved all of the Scuderi women as heroines in this series, but something special resonated for me with Liliana. She started off as a typical teenager with her schoolgirl crush and flirting, but as she matured, she held a quiet strength in caring for her dying mother, while trying to shield her sisters from how bad their mother’s condition was getting and her father’s mistreatment of her, and her brother’s introduction into their world. It seemed like the only joy we see for Lily is when she interacts with her crush, Romero, who also happens to be one of her brother-in-law’s mafia soldiers. She harbored a crush on Romero since she was a young teenager. Something happened over the years when Romero stopped seeing Lily as a little girl, but as a woman he desired to make his own. The problem is that Lily is raised as mafia royalty, in a world where the women don’t have choices, but are used as strategic pawns in the fight for power and control. “I want you Lily. I can’t get you out of my head. No matter what I do there’s always you.” – Romero This is the first book in the series where the hero and heroine actually desired each other and had feelings for one another, whereas the other books centered on arranged marriages. This just made me root for their happy ending, despite the obstacles that they had to face if they ever wanted to be joined as a couple. Both characters had to really fight for the other in this story. I could not put this book down and was up until 2am, waiting to see what would happen next in their epic love story. Without giving any spoilers, I really wanted to fist pump Luca having Romero’s back at the end of this book. Luca and Matteo think of Romero like a brother and it was gratifying to see them stand by him. All of the books in this series can be read as a stand-alone, but I’ve really enjoyed reading the series from the beginning, having become emotionally invested in all of the characters. The next book in the series takes us to the Las Vegas Camorra, and October (2015) can’t get here fast enough for me to read about Growl and Cara!
