Editorial Reviews

Laura Bastian
The fight scenes, the danger, the intrigue, the romance, and the secrets are all placed so perfectly it keeps you turning page after page to find out what happens next.

I really enjoyed it. It was new and refreshing. A clean romance with just the right amount of steam.

I would totally recommend this book to people who like Stephanie Myers Twilight books, and even to those who don't. C.K.Bryant has the talent to take something far fetched like space travel, magic, shapeshifting,

One of the things I enjoyed most about this book, were the easy, fun, very believable exchanges between the best friends. I'd catch myself smiling while they teased and mocked each other. I also admired their unwavering loyalty. It was what I hoped for and expected from their relationship early on. There wasn't any cattiness or jealousy on their parts. You meet Lydia's big brother, Octavion, early on in the story. He gives new meaning to the term "over protective". He's pushy, forceful, stubborn and abrasive. But, you also get to see his softer side. He can be gentle, caring and moved to tears. As you delve further into the story you come to understand why that is. There are good reasons for a lot of his behaviors and reactions, but oftentimes he can't get a good grasp on controlling them. He has great chemistry with Kira. There's a powerful attraction and intensity between them. Their exchanges range from tender to volatile. They have some pretty great scenes together when they're alone. I'm not sure I ever really warmed up to Kira, even at the end. Her behavior felt inconsistent throughout the book. She starts off weak and helpless, but gradually finds her footing. As she finds confidence, self-worth and her backbone, it's refreshing, entertaining and exciting. When she begins to stand up for herself and take charge of the direction her life will take, you root for her. But, I felt like I got some whiplash as she flipped back and forth between being brave and being a coward, over and over again. I don't fault her for being afraid of different characters or situations, it was the behavior she displayed that perturbed me. One minute she's pointing a weapon at someone and the next she's cowering on the floor like a kitten and can't make eye contact with them. I have to give her credit for her heroics and bravery, when she showed it. I owe her that. She's someone you'd definitely want on your side. You can find romance, magic, paranormal elements and otherworldly opposition in this book. Enjoy!

I got this review as a read to review. The cover was the first thing to grab me. I was curious so I read the blurb about it. This also looked appealing so I decided to review it. I have to say that Bound was a great start to a new series. The book was stellar and I couldn't put it down. I even stopped reading another book I was most of the way through to finish this book. The author kept the story interesting and weaved a great romance into it. The plot was original and the characters were likeable. Bound was a very interesting and creative story. This story had it all: Great plot Interesting premise Likeable characters Shifters Alchemy Aliens so to speak Action Romance Friendship ....and the list could go on. If I were a lover of YA paranormal romance, I would beet feet and grab this book. It was awesome. I know that I am eagerly awaiting the sequel Broken out June 7th!I give Bound a solid five stars:)

I read “Bound” in a matter of days, and enjoyed Christine’s fresh take on YA fantasy. The book was a swashbuckling adventure, full of creativity with characters demonstrating a fierce loyalty and unconquerable spirit. This is the first book of a trilogy, and she has set up an exciting tale that will carry onto her next books.

Bound is the fist book in the Crystor series. Kira is a teenage girl with normal problems and issues to her age, well, that¿s how it seems at first anyways. Things quickly turn out to be very different for her and her BFF Lydia. The story, characters and creatures of Bound are so richly written that you almost believe that these girls might just live down the street from you. It is not just another YA book guys! It is much richer and more enduring than many out there. And Kira? She is sooo not your typical ditzy/weak girl who needs to be rescued, yet she is. But even when she needs help or rescue she is no simpering little waif. I just love her. Octavion, Lydia¿s big brother, is strong, gorgeous, mysterious, oh, and stubborn beyond reason at times yet he has the biggest heart and will so what ever needs done. I¿m sure many out there don¿t like Octavion much as he does grate a bit but if you look at the why and how of it you see a proud, loving, dedicated and true brother, son, and friend (maybe more) emerge from the attitude he throws out. Lydia and her alter Altaira are wonderful. Sweet and loving yet powerful and snarky. Just loved her/them. I can¿t wait for book 2, Broken to come out! If you haven¿t read Bound you are missing a great read, a wonderful first of the series, and a great adventure / romance. You won¿t regret this YA read! It¿s definitely and un-put-downable and re-readable book!

Bound has been on my to-read list for quite a while now and so I was very excited to sit down and finally get the chance to check it out! While it won't be making my favourites list, I still genuinely enjoyed it and it had my attention from the very first page. Bound certainly gets full marks for originality. I thought everything in this book had a very different feel to it which is awesome because for a while there, lots of the YA paranormal books I was coming across just seemed like copies of each other or lacked some extra spark to actually make them stand out! Our protagonist is Kira and this novel follows her life as things get, well, really weird. Her home life practically falls apart (seriously- her mother ups and leaves!) and she learns some shocking secrets about her best friend. I loved Kira and enjoyed getting to know her. I think she's a very independent character and I loved that she was never afraid to speak her mind or tell somebody to quit doing something that was getting on her nerves or upsetting her. While I wouldn't say she takes everything in her stride, she does handle all the events with grace and bravery which I had to admire her for. What I loved most about Bound was how intelligent it all was. This was definitely wasn't a light or quick read for me. The plot really has a lot of depth and is well thought out. There are a lot of back stories and every aspect of the story had a history to it which I loved learning about. Bryant has created many interesting characters and I loved finding out more about them. Kira's friend Lydia- and her 'kindred spirit'' Altaria- are simply fascinating to read about. I went back and forth on how I felt about Octavion! I thought he was an interesting guy but not really a great love interest. This book made me think a lot about what I would do if I had to make some of the decisions Kira was faced with making. The story did drag for me at parts and my interest began to wane for a while but mostly, I really did like it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to fellow paranormal fans! Bound has many interesting concepts, characters, events and creatures. The second book in the series, Broken, is coming out in the next few weeks and I will probably check it out when I have the time!

This book was a pleasant surprise! I did not know what to expect when I started it but I ended up loving it! This book involved friendship, loyalty, romance and much more. I instantly connected with Kira and I enjoyed growing with her throughout the book as she learned more about Lydia and Octavion. C.K. Bryant was able to put her own unique spin on common paranormal characters. I loved the originality of this story! I don’t want to give too much away because there is a lot to learn as the story progresses. What I will say is this book will have you reading into the wee hours because you are unable to get to a stopping point because you keep learning more and it keeps you wanting to know more. (Okay maybe that is just me but don’t say I didn’t warn you ;)) I also recommend the anthology In His Eyes. There is a deleted scene from BOUND in it and it is good!! That scene had me smiling and laughing out loud. Loved it! I am now really looking forward to the second book in the series BROKEN!

Great fantasy. I didn't want to put the book down once the things started moving. The only thing that was a was a little frustrating is that it left you hanging at the end. I had to keep going to the next two in the trilogy. Broken and Beloved are well written also. The trilogy is a good read for adults and teens alike.

This is some really good writing, and even thought it's not a totally new concept, I thought it had enough originality to make it worth reading. I don't read a lot of Y.A. lit. because I get tired of 16 and 17 year old kids meeting their one true love and fighting against all odds to be together. The nice thing about this one is that they acted older, and their maturity made their relationship seem more solid, more real. My biggest complaint is one of personal preference. I felt like there should have been a warning stating "This novel contains scenes of torture." Combined with this caliber of writing, the abuse was too real for my taste. It made it difficult for me to keep reading, but by this point, I was anxious to know what would happen. Unfortunately, it went on for way longer than I would have liked and there was no true resolution by time the book ended. Luckily, Broken (the next is the series) was also free so I'm reading that now. I'm crossing my fingers there will be no more scenes like in the first.
