Meet the Author

Gustave Flaubert naît à Rouen le 12 décembre 1821 dans une famille de la petite bourgeoisie. L’enfance de Flaubert est assez triste, adoucie par sa soeur Caroline. Il manifeste peu d’enthousiasme au lycée de Rouen et emprend sans conviction des études de droit a Paris en 1841. Devenu grand ami de Maxime Du Camp et Victor Hugo, il abandonne ses études pour poursuivre ses tentatives littéraires. L’Éducation sentimentale est sa première oeuvre dont la version définitive est publiée en 1869. Madame Bovary (1857), Salammbô (1862), Trois Contes (1877) et Bouvard et Pécuchet (1881) sont ses chefs d’ouevre. Il meurt à Canteleu le 8 mai 1880.
