Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tiffany Erickson
Small bowls and boxes are great for small treasures and little children often love peeking inside. With this book, children can make their own bowls for small trinkets. Different mediums are discussed like clay, paper pulp, lacquer boxes, even bowls made from recycled materials. One page shows an amazing pair of bowls woven out of telephone wire. The designs shown vary from antique to modern, and many of them have incredible painted detail. The craft instructions naturally create much simpler boxes, but the bowl from nature, for instance, is little more than a jack-o-lantern. Instructions for the clay bowl and lacquer bowl are simple and concise, but only crafters with patience should make the paper pulp and recycled material bowls, as the book suggests that it might take two or more days to dry. Most readers will be content to look at the pictures, but those brave enough to mix up a bowl of paper pulp will need a parents' permission and plenty of towels handy. This is a volume for larger collections. Reviewer: Tiffany Erickson
