Good book for beginners, but sequence tough to follow

Really love this book and am so glad I bought it. Mr. Finegan seems to be a really nice, thoughtful young man who has taken his time in writing this book. This is especially obvious when he discusses the importance of the Cool Down period. He is really, ostensibly, a very worldly, thinking man. No wonder he is a champ.

And, just because his writing is thoughtful does not mean that he is not a great athlete and a formidable martial artist. What I like is that he truly considers the beginner who may choose to merely benefit from the excellent workout to those who actually desire getting into the ring. There is no arrogance about this work, no bragging or put downs. Just a very well written book.

That said, I am having difficulty discerning in what order the workout should be done. It seems pretty clear that the warmup phase of the workout begins with dynamic stretching, continues with jumping rope and concludes with shadow boxing.

However, what is to be done next is unclear. Mr. Finegan goes into a section entitled Combination Punches, but does not indicate whether or not those are to be done on a bag or in front of a mirror. Also, at the end of that section, he describes a 5 punch combination which is to begin with 2 right (?!) jabs - I thought a right-handed fighter always jabbed with his LEFT hand - yet Mr. Finegan is pictured as starting this combination with his left hand. Confusing to say the least.

Perhaps this is a proof-reading issue, but I would love to be able to discuss with him the small amount of discrepancies I perceived to be present in his book.

He then goes into discussing the varying Bag Work (it would seem that Combination Punches would follow the section on the Heavy Bag) and then on to conditioning. Perhaps I got spoiled by how well the other sections were written, but, being a true beginner, I would need to rely on a logical sequence.

My main knock is the sequence and the occasional differing of text from photograph. Other than that, this is one of the best books I have seen for aspiring beginners to boxing, and there are not many such books. That makes me that much gladder that I have this book to reference so I can avoid paying a personal trainer 30 - 150 dollars/hour until I am ready to decide that I need one.

The workout is just right - not too easy, but not so difficult that it cannot be done in 1 to 1.25 hrs/session.
