Boy and Bird can go up to the tree house, but Dog cannot. Boy has an idea so the three friends can enjoy the tree house together.
Children's Literature - Michele Lauer-BaderWritten and illustrated by McPhail, this beginning reader uses simple words to tell a delightful story. Boy joins Bird in the tree house by climbing the ladder. Dog wants to join them but is not able to climb the ladder so Boy comes up with a creative solution. He ties a rope to a pot he finds in the shed, puts Dog in the pot and hauls him up. When Boy's mother brings cookies outside, she too uses the pot to send the cookies up to the tree house. All ends happily. The language of the story is rhythmic and the color illustrations are child-like and warm. McPhail has created a story with a real plot that will appeal to both beginning readers and to preschoolers. This title is part of the "I Like to Read" series. Reviewer: Michele Lauer-Bader
