But while Lori and the "baby" brother, Adam, are inseparable friends, she can't deny a secret crush on Sean, the older Vader boy. This year Sean's been paying Lori a lot of attention, and not in a brotherly way.

But just as Lori decides to prove to Sean she's girlfriend material, she realizes that her role as girl friend to Adam may be even more important. And by trying so hard for the perfect summer romance, she could be going way overboard....

Almost all of Lori McGillicuddy's summers were always the same: work at the Vader Marina along with her brother and the three boys next door -- Cameron, Sean, and Adam. It was the perfect place to work, since Lori was always able to practice her wakeboarding skills and be around Sean, her longtime crush. This summer was no different than the past ones, except for Lori's three-step plan to finally get Sean to notice her as a girl instead of just one of the guys, and to have him ask her out.

All the stages of Lori's plan seems to be working just fine, since Sean has definitely started flirting with her. Unfortunately, it takes a huge setback when Sean steals his brother Adam's girlfriend.

Lori cannot believe this (her plan seemed foolproof) but at least now she can rule out that her age isn't a factor in why Sean hasn't asked her out yet, since Adam's now ex-girlfriend is a year younger than she is.

Now, the only way that Lori can win back Sean is to make him jealous, which sparks another plan. So Lori approaches Adam, telling him that the only way that they can get back the ones they love is to go out with each other. Surprisingly, Adam accepts this idea without much hesitation. Of course, having your crush's brother as your fake boyfriend may seem a little weird at first, especially since they look so much aliker. But it soon becomes natural for both Lori and Adam -- maybe a little too natural.

Lori can't help but get this tingling feeling whenever Adam is pretend-flirting with her. Spending time with Adam actually becomes really fun and he is all she begins to think about, which just can't be happening since it's Sean that she wants... right?

THE BOYS NEXT DOOR takes you on the ride of your life, making you want to scream and squeal at all the troubles Lori has to go through, just to get the guy of her dreams. Jennifer Echols makes Lori one of the most likeable characters out there with her outrageous but very hilarious ideas and, before you know it, readers will be scrambling to be in Lori's shoes. Another awesome novel from Jennifer Echols and another wonderful addition to the Simon Romantic Comedies series.

Ok so Lori is an average tom boy who thinks it is her "destiny" to date Sean (her next door neighbor whom her mom picked out for her before she passed away). How far will she go to get him? Is she playing with Adam's feelings, or is Adam playing with her's? Is Sean even interested? Read this comedic and confusing book and get your answer. Have fun! I completely recommend!

This was my first Echols novel... I fell in love with the story from page one of the story. I was this girl, trying so hard to win the heart of one boy...while overlooking the amazing boy right there in front of my eyes. I read this book well over a year ago, but i loved it so much I came back for seconds. If you've read any of Jennifer Echols books in the past you know they're well written and very addictive. If this is your first time reading her work, I warn you...you'll never put this book down and I hope you have an e-reader..because you will be eager to sink your teeth into another of her outstanding tales of love and finding out in the journey to finding that love, you find out a little about yourself. I highly recommed this book, if it were possible to give it 100 stars I would do so without second thought. I wish there were more authors who wrote as beautifully as this author does.

Have read all of Jennifer Echols books, from her early on romantic comedies for Simon Pulse to her dramas for MTV Books (her couple of last ones). There's a recognizable humor in all of her novels and I, without an except, find myself smiling or giggling when reading her stories. I first read "The Boys Next Door" a few years ago and the same summer I read it for the first time, I read it another nine times. Serious. If you're a real romance novel junkie you will die for this one. I find it a bit annoying when the back of a book promises a story about guy/girl/love/drama but it takes 1/3 of the book to even officially meet the guy in which you've read about a bunch of nonsense up until then. In "The Boys Next Door" you're introduced to all the characters very early on and therefore really get to know them and see them develope throughout the story. As a given, this novel is filled with giggling moments. But also, very well-written and heartfelt, intense moments. Good plotting, dreamy boys(!!!), the kind of book you hug to your chest when finished. Definitely the kind of cheesy, silly novel some will frown upon (a positive remark on my part). By the end of the book I could barely let go. Wrote the lovely Echols a letter of praises and hoped for a sequel, which did indeed show up (it's called "Endless Summer") all because of readers' prompting and request for it! Though I will go ahead and admit that I didn't enjoy the sequel as much as anticipated, but I still recommend it dearly. There was definitely a different voice to the characters, more grown (obviously, since there was a two year gap between the books, if I remember correctly). Bottom line, if you're into YA romance novels.. this is the best one. When you're on it, also check out "Major Crush" by Jennifer Echols (her first novel). Best regards.

Lori is dying for her brother's friend, Sean. Adam, Sean's brother, is dying for Lori. When Sean makes out with Rachel, Adam's girlfriend, Lori and Adam make a plan. They fake going out so Adam can make Rachel jealous and Lori can make Sean jealous. As the air heats up, so does this love square. A must-read, along with Jennifer Echols amazing novel, Love Story.
