Overview

Grammy-winning pianist Murray Perahia continues his triumphant exploration of the Romantic piano repertoire with an all-new Brahms collection. The highlight is a rare recording of Brahms's virtuosic Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24, which Brahms biographer Jan Swofford hails as "perhaps the finest set of piano variations since Beethoven."

Perahia's new recording also includes a selection of Brahms's most admired shorter compositions for solo piano, including the thrilling Two Rhapsodies, Op. 79, and two sets of his incomparable, richly melodic late works -- Six Piano Pieces, Op. 118, and Four Piano Pieces, Op. 119. From the Label

Murray Perahia never disappoints.  His Brahms is thoughtful and intellectual, but retains the musicality and emotion you'd expect from this world  class artist.   Perahia has a way of bringing out inner voices within the music that often go unheard.   With a broad dynamic range, pallet of colors and and sublime phrasing this is a CD worth owning whether you're an avid listener or a pianist looking for ideas  in interpretation.
