Overview

Brain Storm is the story of Bruce and Laura Allen who, when confronted with the immeasurable challenges of brain injury, found courage, determination, and strength from God to forge through the seemingly insurmountable obstacles of Bruce's intense and often heartbreaking recovery. The overwhelming struggles that consumed the next year changed their lives forever. Brain Storm views these incredible hurdles through the separate eyes of both the survivor and the caregiver. It recounts how God miraculously led them through each step of the journey. This candid, intimate, and often humorous approach to recovery from brain injury will encourage and inspire readers-especially those who are currently traveling a similar path. You will learn why Bruce decided, "This has been the best year of my life."

"Brain Storm is not just the story of a man's experience recovering from brain injury, but it is also one of loss, grief, acceptance, and transcendence to find one's purpose in life. This is a true testament to how fragile our lives are and how resilient we can be in the face of adversity. Bruce's story is an inspiration to me, his physician and friend, and will be to you as well."

-Darryl L. Kaelin, MD

"Bruce and Laura Allen have allowed us to journey with them in their remarkable, honest, painful, and miraculous story of faith, hope, and love. This is a must-read for anyone walking through extended physical suffering either as a patient, caregiver, or family member. You will laugh, cry, and rejoice-but most of all you will experience God."

-Dr. Mark L. Walker

    Couldn't put it down!

This is an easy read that speaks from the heart to the heart. It is very well written and hard to put down. We were truly blessed to have Laura and Bruce in our worship services this weekend. They are wonderful communicators.

    Couldn't put it down!

I started reading the book and couldn’t put it down. You are amazing people. I love the approach of hearing from the patient and caregiver alike. It was very inspirational and encouraging. My daughter’s teacher wants to read it next.

    A wonderful read!

I marvel at how the insight and revelations are helpful to all who are in an extended recovery situation; not just brain injured patients. We can all identify with the writers' thoughts at some point. The chapters at the end hold valuable information for all of us.....presently in a care-giving situation or knows someone else who is.

Thank you for giving light to those on a darkened path and hope for the brain injured as well as their families.

Read this Book! Encouraging and entertaining story that touches the heart.

This is an encouraging little book of a man's journey with dealing with an unforeseen circumstance that affects his body, family and spirit. It gave me new insight into what many people go through after suffering brain injuries through a traffic accident, a violent crime or just natural afflictions. The brain really is a supercomputer that touches every function in our bodies that we so often take for granted. You will laugh and cry at many of Bruce and Laura's stories during the rehab stage. It was refreshing to see how one's faith can be such an anchor when life gives us lemons rather than lemonade. The Allen's account is entertaining, but goes deeper than that in offering hope to those who may feel they are all alone.

    Very Good!

Brain Storm gives personal experiences of brain injury, the recovery process, and lists excellent resources for helping others. After reading Brain Storm, I thought how wonderful it is that God answers prayer and has the power to heal. This is a very good book. I recommend this book because I believe the message in Brain Storm can be applied to anyone going through the trials and tribulations in life.
