Overview

“Funny, frisky, and far out! Jennifer Stevenson’s writing is naughty and irresistible.”
–Julie Kistler, author of Scandal

THE CURSE: Satisfy one hundred women or be trapped in a brass bed forever Lord Randall was a lousy lover in 1811, so his magician-mistress turned him into a sex demon. Lucky for him, his bed fell into Clay’s hands.

THE CON: Sex therapy for women on an antique brass “treatment bed”
Clay has the perfect scam going, until that pesky, foxy fraud investigator Jewel comes sniffing around. Lucky for him, she has a soft spot for hunky con men.

THE CHOICE: Sex demon or sex fraudster?
Jewel is Randy’s hundredth woman. Now he says he’s her personal sex slave, and her case against the con artist is dissolving in a hail of hormones. Lucky for her, she’s a tough cop with a lusty libido.

Meet the Author

Jennifer Stevenson bought a bed last summer, but it wasn’t possessed. She loves dark chocolate, Chicago, and crows, and she would never buy cigarettes for pigeons. After years of trying to be a fragile artiste, she has released her inner silliness. She lives in the Chicago area with her husband of thirty years and two cats. Her first novel, Trash Sex Magic, was longlisted for the Nebula Award in 2005 and 2006 and shortlisted for the Locus Awards Best First Novel in 2005.

    Free Ebook

I went on a whim and downloaded this free ebook. Very confusing, and sometimes not in a good way. There could have been a better explanation of the background, now that I look at the cover it's obvious to assume that this book is about magic/science fiction/fantasy however when I read the excerpt I hadn't the slightest notion that it was leaning more towards that with the story line. I wouldn't say romance, the sex scenes were graphic but interesting. Enjoyed the book in the end am tempted to read the sequel now that I understand the book upon completing. Definitely would not have paid what it's selling price was at, unfortuately. If your looking for a very unique story line, with romance this is your book.

    Downloaded as a free ebook

... would not buy as an ebook nor a real book.

The main character is whiny and walking cliche of everything wrong with women (loves shoes! loves the wrong kind of men! thinks there's something wrong with her because she likes sex! always doubts herself!). Supporting characters are equally undeveloped and unimaginative (main character's best friend is a housewife that LOVES being berated by her adulterous husband, picks on her only daughter but adores her twin sons; said husband sits around and does not help around the house; coworkers of main character think she's a slut because she enjoys sex, and all the women "tease" one another by calling each other sluts). The plot itself is laughable, and even the sex scenes (I mean, come on, it's a romance novel, you should at least have good sex scenes) are confusing and not that steamy.

On top of that, the writing was very confusing, couldn't follow what was going on for some of the book, but that could be due to the ebook format; sometimes there would just be double breaks for an unrelated paragraph that would be evident in a normal book.

Would not recommend. Read something of more substance.

For fans of urban investigative romantic fantasies

Chicago is being overwhelmed by magic seemingly being blown everywhere. The mayor orders his subordinates to conceal what is going on insisting he fears a panic. Chicago Department of Consumer Services investigator Jewel Heiss is unhappy with her boss with all the goings-one he assigns her to perform surveillance of his wife, who happens to be her best friend.--------------------- Her surveillance introduces Jewel to Clay Dawes, who claims his magical brass bed will cure all female sexual problems by simply taking a nap in it. Jewel is upset with the scoundrel who charges an exorbitant fee, but takes him up on his challenge of testing the bed free of charge as long as he is in it with her. However, his brass bed also contains an incubus cursed in the nineteenth century for being a crappy lover while a genie is turning the city into a magical mystery mayhem tour.------------------ The speed is hectic from the onset, but fans of urban investigative romantic fantasies will hop onto THE BRASS BED for the wild ride. Though at times wordy, the lighthearted story line has a lot going on so it bewilders the audience as it does the investigative heroine who must decide between sexual curse and sexual fraud either way she wants to test first her hand (and a few other body parts).---------- Harriet Klausner

A turn off! Not worth free!

Some areas were very confusing and most was poorly written and hard to follow. Had to give up after, I think, like previously said, hard to follow...first having sex with a swan and then not sure if it was on/with a horse!?! Plus the plot wasn't even that interesting.

Not worth free download! Way too many good romance reads to bother with this free download!
If you dare - good luck!
