Overview

Claire Harte-Mathias is an infinitely capable solver of other people's problems. Along with her husband, she has established a prestigious foundation to aid in the rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injuries. Training therapists, counseling patients, and conducting workshops keeps Claire busy, fulfilled, and happy. It is a life she wouldn't trade for anything...and one that is about to fall apart. One snowy night, Claire tries and fails to prevent a tragedy from occurring. The incident at first obsesses her, then seems to trigger something deep in her soul. Soon she is haunted by momentary disturbing visions - terrifying images that are vaguely familiar, yet unexplainable. Slowly Claire comes to realize that the pictures are in fact fragmented and forgotten memories of her childhood - a childhood she has always remembered as close to perfect. While part of her wants to see where these memories will lead her another part wants only to run from them, to bury them once again. Confused and frightened, Claire is caught up in a complex and devastating struggle between yesterday and today; between the man who wants to help her and the husband who cannot; between terrible secrets and life-altering revelations. In her fight to uncover and accept the truth, Claire discovers that the past, present, and future are intertwined in a way she can never change...or forget. Written with sensitivity, Brass Ring is a heartfelt and mesmerizing novel of great loss and even greater courage.

The author of Secret Lives, Keeper of the Light and Fire and Rain once again beguiles her readers with a haunting story of three women, strangers to each other, whose lives connect in an eerie tale of passion and betrayal.

    Suspenseful and very entertaining!

As a huge Diane Chamberlain fan, I was ecstatic to learn that BRASS RING was reissued as an eBook. It is one of her earliest books, and I feel certain that it is one of her best!

BRASS RING is about two estranged sisters who cope with early childhood memories in completely different ways. The story feels very authentic as it should; Diane is a former social worker and psychotherapist. It is also a very suspenseful story of hope and family. I highly recommend it!

Slow book. Others by her are better

I have read many Diane Chamberlain books and have thoroughly enjoyed them. However, this one was really s l o w. Lot's of internal dialog and I kept wishing something would happen already. I would skip this one by Diane and pick a different one.

    Amazing-- Highly Recommend!!

Wow---Brass Ring was outstanding and amazingly written! For all of you out there -- fans of Diane Chamberlain (such as myself) and have read her newer books—this is an incredible opportunity to read one of the best books now which has been re-released as an e-book.

I would not change a thing about this book-from the minute it starts to the ending –each detail is precisely timed to hold your interest and suspense throughout the book. (It has been sitting in my Nook library, as I am always so focused on reading all the new releases); however, if I had any hint as to the impact and nature of this e-book--would have read it prior to now! I wish I could give it a rating of more than 5 stars – as so deserving and have added to the Best book of all times list.
Diane Chamberlain is the most talented writer out today---she has the insight as a former social worker which digs down to controversial issues and is not afraid to tackle them. She develops her stories with such careful planning as well as each character –giving you just enough to keep you hanging on every word with a take away you will not soon forget. She also makes her characters real with flaws, so they experience everyday issues.

Books with this kind of takeaway (such as Necessary Lies by Diane) are rare and one to be highly recommended. She has her fans spoiled --as it is very difficult to read books by other authors, as some cannot live up to the bar she has set. Each and every one of her books are 5 star quality and am so excited to start diving into the new e-books which were back lists, I missed. I also love the way she includes the section at the end--“Story behind the story”, to give the reader an up close and personal view into the creativity, imagination, research, and thought process behind the novel—this was outstanding!

I could have read this in one sitting (as was this good); however, traveling and had to spend time with the family (and could not wait to sneak away to get back to the book—even going to the park on a cool fall day in NC to sit in a swing and lavish every character). Randy was a key character in the book and loved the way Diane utilized him as a means to bring true meaning to all the characters connected.

Will not give away anything about this book as a spoiler—however, will say it covers everything from repressed memories of a tragic event which happens as a protective mechanism to cope; suicide, child abuse, pedophiles, disabilities, parents who are not real-and do not allow children to face issues and try to cover up to protect, relationships which do not allow a person’s independence, plus many more---would love to see a sequel as continuation of Susan and the cast of characters—so movie worthy!

Masterfully written with much suspense (up there with Bay at Midnight, Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes and Necessary Lies) – highly recommend!
