Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Sahil Bakshi, D.O.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is a comprehensive text, a major reference work, covering all aspects of cardiology.
Purpose: This is intended to be a comprehensive treatise on cardiovascular medicine.
Audience: The book is a reference for cardiologists and cardiology trainees. Internists and internal medicine residents may also benefit.
Features: The authors have done an excellent job in creating one of the most up-to-date, comprehensive references in cardiology. This edition has added 35 new chapters including preventive cardiology, cardiac regeneration, cardiac imaging, and molecular biology. Another new feature is the emphasis on clinical practice points in each chapter, which make the book easier to use and refer to in everyday clinical practice.
Assessment: Braunwald's Heart Disease has been a long-standing major reference for cardiovascular disease. Cardiology is a rapidly developing and dynamic field, and this extensively revised and thoroughly updated edition is well timed and will be well received.
