New York Times:
"An energetic, good-hearted escapade, one that young readers will enjoy."
Starred Review, Kirkus Reviews:
• "Hilarious. If ever a new series deserved to go viral, this one does."
"A perfect mix of writing that is simple enough for early readers but still remarkably snarky, clever, and entertaining. Kids will soak up the humor, tidbits of science instruction, and adventure."
Children's Literature - Loretta Caravette
Squish is an amoeba. In this graphic novel Squish, like any kid, is having problems. He is going to a new school/pond. He has old friends, Peggy the paramecium and Pod who is also an ameoba, but he is tired of them and wants to meet new people. He wants to make a new start. Before school he lists all the new things he wants to do this year. The first on the list is no trading food with Pod. No detention. He does not want to be embarrassed by Peggy. He wants to get picked for kickball for a change and he wants to sit with the cool kids. He wants to be cool! He meets the Algae brothers the coolest microorganisms in the pond. He decides instead of sitting with his old friends at lunch he would sit with the Algae brothers. At first the brothers share their nachos with him and pick him to be part of their team during recess. They walk together to school. Squish is feeling very cool. But when one of the brothers says he likes Squish's hat, really likes his hatthere is no question, Squish has to give up his favorite cap. Things get worst when the brothers tell Squish he has to dump his chips with cheese all over his friend Pod. Squish had problems with a bully once before and it did not turn out well. Will he have the backbone to stand up to the brothers? The book contains some basic facts about algae, amoebas, and even paramecium. It is a fun but simple story that boys and even girls will enjoy.
